The
#AfricaMigrationReport
is the very first edition of an
#African
specific
#migration
report. This first publication seeks to challenge the dominant narrative about migration on the continent, which is usually flawed and misconstrued.
... Most of the time, the rationale on migratory flows in Africa are perceived to be flowing out of the continent, and often supported by harrowing images of migrants attempting to use the Mediterranean route.
The 1st Ed of the
#AfricaMigrationReport
captures the prevailing complexities of human mobility &
#migration
from, to and within Africa. It unpacks common accepted understandings and shares the message that migration in Africa is more complex and less homogeneous than perceived.
Ambassador Simon Gessbühler of the
#Swiss
Government, an important funder of the project, speaks abt the interesting insights on intraAfrican
#migration
trends revealed by the
#AfricaMigrationReport
.
@_AfricanUnion
Commissioner of Social Affairs HE Amira Elfadil
@AmiraDSA
says the relationship between the AU and IOM is very important and expresses her desire to see the various cooperative projects on managing
#migration
on the
#African
continent to be strengthened.
She highlights the many projects IOM is working closely with the AU under the
#migration
dossier, and says it breaks her heart to see any African soul perish on the irregular trek to find opportunities outside the continent...
Besides the
#AfricaMigrationReport
project IOM has worked closely with the AU on the Migration Policy Framework for Africa (MPFA), the Joint Labour Migration Programme (
#JLMP
), and the AU-Horn of Africa Initiative (AU-HoAI), amongst others.
Ms. Nanjala Nyabola

#AfricaMigrationReport
, the drill down work that was done, emphasising that more evidence on
#migration
trends still needs to be gathered.

#Nigerian
economist & demographer and leading voice in African migration research as Editor-in-Chief, assisted by Ms. Nanjala Nyabola & Mr. Corrado Fumagalli as co-editors.
With
#youth

#AfricaMigrationReport
that IOM & the
@AUYouthProgram
Division of the AU Commission ran...
Young African designers submitted well thought out pieces that depict migration, with Rabibisoa Mickaia
