Let’s give this weekend’s officials a pat on the back. They could be at home with family and friends. Instead, they’re putting on a mask and making high school sports possible—even during this difficult time. This is commitment. This is putting kids first.

Welcome to the Fall Sports Season as practices officially begin today in Cross Country, Football, Soccer, Boys Tennis, Unified Flag Football, and Volleyball! Good luck to all those competing this season!

When’s the last time you said “thank you” to a high school official? Thank you for giving up your nights and weekends. Thank you for tolerating unruly fans. Thank you for putting on a mask and continuing to officiate.
#ThisIsYourIHSAA
Let’s give it up for all the men and women who officiated an IHSAA game or meet this past weekend. Without them, high school sports would not be possible. Thank you!

Is it worth skipping parties with friends so you can finish your sports season? Is it worth going straight home after practice to be safe, stay healthy and keep playing? This is your team. This is how you can help. This is the time to follow virus protocols.

The next time you’re ready to boo, hiss or criticize high school officials, think about this. Without them, there would be no high school sports. They’re masking up so our kids can continue playing the games they love. This is commitment. This is dedication.

The IHSAA has been in communication with both school administrations regarding the unfortunate student fan incident in the Center Grove vs. Cathedral game. Our school administrators are addressing the matter and will use this as learning experience.

Parents who complain about the coaching, berate the officials and mock the other team reflect poorly on your school’s reputation and character. Please continue to behave in a way that reflects positively on your child, your school and your community.

REMINDER! It's Moratorium Week (July 2 – July 8, 2018)! During this seven‐day period, there shall be no contact between athletes and coaches, and no athletic activities, including conditioning, conducted.
What if there were no Friday Night Lights? No Saturday afternoon swimming meets? No Thursday evening baseball games? That’s what would happen if there were no IHSAA officials. So, let’s applaud them instead of criticizing them.

Where would we be without high school sports? Now we know, and it hurts. To the seniors whose spring sports seasons were cancelled, we’re sorry. Losing a game hurts. Losing an entire season hurts even more. Let’s learn and grow stronger because of it.

The pandemic confirms it. Our community needs high school sports. This means we also need high school officials. Thank you to the men and women who give up their nights and weekends so our kids can play. This is community service.

Hey, parents and guardians! If you want to officiate today’s game, become a high school official. But if you’re the parent or guardian of a student-athlete and sitting in the stands, then your only job today is to support your kid’s team. Keep it positive!

We need high school sports. They lift us up, give us purpose and bring us together. They also teach life lessons that aren’t easy. To the seniors whose seasons were cancelled, we’re sorry. But you’ll be stronger, more empathetic leaders because of it.
#FaceOfSportsmanship
Of course, you’re stressed. The pandemic is tough on everyone. But don’t express your angst and anxiety by yelling at high school officials. Without their sacrifice, there would be no high school sports. This is perspective. This is putting our kids first.
