Curious what it's like to go through a high-end Cat-5 #hurricane? Here's my #DORIAN video from the #Bahamas. Unlike a lot of my recent work, this is no teaser—it's a full-length video that brings you through whole experience from my POV. Two notes: .

Six year ago today, I survived #Hurricane #DORIAN—the strongest landfalling hurricane on record in North America (tied with the 1935 Labor Day Storm in Florida). It struck Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas with unimaginable ferocity: sustained winds of 160 knots. I rode it out

Want to end a dark day with light. #Hurricane #KATRINA forever changed the Gulf Coast. The scars cannot be erased. But, boy has it bounced back. New Orleans has recaptured its magic vibrance. And Coastal #Mississippi is booming. Some pics of present-day Bay Saint Louis.

Meet Florence & Paul—good friends of mine & #KATRINA survivors. Their harrowing tale was central to this piece I did for @WeatherNation, A Tale of Two Cities. I explore why Downtown Bay Saint Louis has bounced back faster than neighboring Waveland. WATCH:

One Bay Saint Louis family chose to ride out #Hurricane #KATRINA in their old house on Demontluzin Avenue, near Downtown. It had survived every other hurricane, including CAMILLE. But KATRINA was something different. As their house collapsed from the force of wind and wave, they

The radar from exactly 20 years ago: 9:10 am CDT 29 August 2005. Waveland, Bay Saint Louis, & Pass Christian were getting "right-front-quadded" by #Hurricane #KATRINA's intense NE eyewall. These communities had temporarily become part of the Gulf of Mexico. Whole neighborhoods

Twenty years—wow. Twenty years ago this morning, one of the very worst #hurricanes in American history smashed the Middle Gulf Coast. Twenty years ago, the very spot where I'm sitting to write this post was under water—had become part of the Gulf. Mighty #KATRINA came roaring

I see #Hurricane #KATRINA as two disasters: 1) the levee failures that swamped much of New Orleans & 2) the gargantuan storm surge that obliterated the Mississippi Coast. Both were catastrophic. Any piece that does not cover *both* fails to paint a full picture of KATRINA.

20 years ago today, Louisiana & Mississippi were staring down the barrel of this Category-5 gun. #Hurricane #KATRINA was approaching, heading for a cataclysmic collision that would kill over 1,800, erase whole communities, & change millions of lives. The warnings were dire.
