The Gulf at dusk. There was a stiff breeze on the waterfront in Bay Saint Louis today, with whitecaps on the water. But at Hurricane House, just a block inland, it was dead calm.

Atlantic is boring & I have no comment. It's against my religion to discuss fish food. In EPAC: #KIKO will intensify. Some models bring it near Hawaii in 8 days, but hurricanes there are as common as unicorns. Invest 94E will soon be #LORENA & could threaten Baja California.

Perhaps I'll stop looking at the computer models. To punish them. Maybe I'll take up some other passion—like painting watercolors of the Gulf. To show them I don't care. Maybe then they'll call. ❤️.

It takes me 6 minutes to do a full computer model review—to identify potential chase specimens around the world. That includes deterministic, ensemble, & hurricane models. These models update every 6 hours. That means I spend 24 minutes a day wasting my time looking for NOTHING.

Want to end a dark day with light. #Hurricane #KATRINA forever changed the Gulf Coast. The scars cannot be erased. But, boy has it bounced back. New Orleans has recaptured its magic vibrance. And Coastal #Mississippi is booming. Some pics of present-day Bay Saint Louis.

I see #Hurricane #KATRINA as two disasters: 1) the levee failures that swamped much of New Orleans & 2) the gargantuan storm surge that obliterated the Mississippi Coast. Both were catastrophic. Any piece that does not cover *both* fails to paint a full picture of KATRINA.

20 years ago today, Louisiana & Mississippi were staring down the barrel of this Category-5 gun. #Hurricane #KATRINA was approaching, heading for a cataclysmic collision that would kill over 1,800, erase whole communities, & change millions of lives. The warnings were dire.
