One difference now: this is the major artery for China’s oil and gas, will be hard for PRC to avoid energy insecurity without taking on some new risks around Hormuz. Small boats, missiles, and drones more easily targeted and less effective than sea mines, which Iran will use.

Right — and no reason Iran won’t be willing to avoid targeting Chinese ships, crews, and cargoes. We have been watching Iran’s Houthis do as much in the Red Sea for a while…1/2.
