The information provided by
@HurleyMania
starting at the 5 minute mark in regards to how UConn is viewed within hockey circles is as damning as it gets for the program and the coaching staff.
It’s a massive problem
Roster Moves 🔁
Presented by
@ElmosPizza
We have signed rookie defenseman Harrison Rees from
@UConnMHOC
. In 5 seasons with the Huskies, he skated 162 games and tallied 43 points (11g, 32a) with a career +/- of 23.
Defenseman Marc-Antoine Pépin has been released.
@DanielVConnolly
Michael Cavanaugh is not the person to lead this program. Yet he’s going to be here 15 years and this program will not have won a damn thing
@DanielVConnolly
Cav needs to be held accountable but the people that cover the team give him no heat. He needs to be gone but UConn gave him an insane contract.
Cav post game: “Some of these nights it happens where the goalie plays really well and you got to tip your cap to him.”
This is the response after being shutout 3 straight times at home and outscored 12-0
Watching top college hockey teams play is just a reminder of how far off UConn as a program is
And for it to be that way in year 11 of a regime is truly deflating as a fan
Serious question:
Has there ever been a coach, who coached at one place for 10+ years and who never won a damn thing, that was paid as one of the top people in his sport?
@uconnhockeyctl
When it’s 2024 and your program has a head coach that does not believe in paying more than a scholarship this is what you get. He does not believe in collectives so good luck building a program that can compete
UConn women‘s hockey has become a Hockey East wagon:
13-0-1 in last 14 HE games
Last loss was Oct 20th
Lead HE by 2 points with a game in hand
Legit chance to win the regular season title
Ben Barr just signed a contract extension this week. He’s going to be making $175,000 less than Cavanaugh.
It’s Barr’s 3rd year.
Maine is going to be at least a 2 seed in the national tournament
UConn is in year 11 of Cav and has nothing to show for it
55th in the country with 2.39 goals per game
59th in the country with a power play percentage of 13.10%
UConn has not scored a power play goal at Toscano
UConn’s lone PP goal at home was against Sacred Heart in CT Ice
*64 D1 teams
Cav’s presser: “Everyone is focusing on us losing at home but why aren’t we focusing on how well we’re playing on the road” and says “he doesn’t understand it”
2-5 at Toscano
Outscored 10-0 last 2 Toscano games
Outscored 19-5 at Toscano in HE games
1-4 HE record at Toscano
@uconnhockeyctl
If Zabaneh from BU is in the portal, I want UConn to go after him. He’s the speed guy they didn’t have last season and desperately needed
UConn’s last 3 Hockey East series:
Maine:
Lost 5-3 (5 goal 3rd period meltdown)
Won 2-0
UNH:
Lost 5-0
Won 2-1
Providence:
Lost 5-0
Won 2-1
It all makes complete sense
@Uconnhockeypod
The way Cav talked this week with Pierre McGuire on a podcast it definitely seemed like he was gone. Both were very high on his NHL chances
UConn women’s hockey are the 2023-‘24 Hockey East Champions
UConn’s 1st Hockey East championship
Congratulations to the players, coaching staff, and everyone involved with the program
Pulls this win out and they move up to
#21
in pairwise
Hopefully a matchup with Quinnipiac next Saturday. Win that and they are right back into the at large conversation
We’re in year 11, UConn is getting annihilated at home (again), they cannot compete with BU so their top scorer takes a two handed baseball swing to the back of the legs of a BU player.
Embarrassing
Program needs a complete reset
Sergeev is 4th nationally in save percentage (.928) and 9th nationally in goals against (2.192)
For goalies who have played a minimum of 33% of their team’s minutes
UConn women’s hockey defeats Merrimack 5-1
17-0-4 in their last 21 Hockey East games
UConn has an 8 point HE lead with 3 games remaining
Can clinch their 1st ever Hockey East regular season title with a win tomorrow at Vermont
@uconnhockeyctl
Don’t forget Cav’s reasoning for starting Haider. Haider’s performance against QPac while at Clarkson. Haider got lit up the season before by QPac. Like wtf are you talking about
UConn’s 2023-24 Toscano Stats:
Record: 2-6-0
Goals per game: 1.125
Shutout 5 times (62.5% of their games)
Vs HE teams:
Record: 1-5-0
Goals per game: .83
Shutout 4 times (66.6% of their games)
UConn will finish the regular season without winning 3 games in a row at any point or winning 2 games the same weekend
UConn still has not scored a power play goal at Toscano this season (1 power play goal at XL)
@HurleyMania
Losing about 10 guys after this season so year 12 is a rebuilding year. Oh joy
Maybe Cav can find another Dawe/Mahshie type to get the rebuild jumpstarted
@Uconnhockeypod
I think they need to finish in 5th to avoid a 2nd round road game vs BC, BU, or Maine. Much rather play them at the garden than on their campus.
#21
now with multiple top 15 matchups still to go. A win vs Quinnipiac would move them inisde the top 20. It is still there to be had
@HurleyMania
Building a roster with sub par Hockey East speed when you have to compete against top 10 programs weekly and people are surprised where this program is after year 11
@HurleyMania
His speed sucks but playing with more talented players would open the ice for him and give him that extra second to make something happen.
There is no one on the roster opposing coaches have to worry about so they can focus on taking away Wood’s shot
The team speed is such a detriment when having to face top Hockey East and top 10 programs.
During preseason practice Cav was told by someone watching that UConn looked slower.
How can a coaching staff expect to legitimately compete in Hockey East with sub par speed?
@HurleyMania
It’s a sad state of affairs when you are a bottom half of the conference team and you wouldn’t be bothered if the 1st round pick transferred
UConn women’s hockey rallies from being down 2-0 to tie Northeastern
Northeastern wins the shootout
UConn 15-0-4 in their last 19 HE games
Now have a 4 point lead in Hockey East with 5 games remaining
UConn has not won 3 games in a row all season (won 2 games in a row twice)
To win CT Ice, UConn would have to win 3 games in a row since UConn defeated UNH last Sunday
@HurleyMania
Not that the UConn hockey coach ever has pressure on him until there is a year left on his contract but at some point you have to win one of these and beat Quinnipiac more than once in 10 years
