Truly majestic photo of two different eras flying in close formation. Notice the flaps on 737 to keep the minimum stall speed of 65 knots to maintain formation. Picture taken from Fokker Eindecker.
Had never seen this picture before: a 1991 Lufthansa photoshoot with the airline´s (then) new B-737-500 near its granny JU-52

@50YearsAgoLive Franco took forever to die & there were daily updates on his health. It was gross. About a week after his death on SNL's Weekend News Jane Curtain announced "Generalissimo Franco is still dead". 😅

Spanish dictator Francisco Franco is laid to rest at the Valley of the Fallen (Valle de los Caídos), a colossal memorial to the Spanish Civil War 10km outside Madrid. Franco had chosen the site for his own burial in 1959, and a lead-lined tomb is waiting for him. Franco is

There is an even greater, and a more interesting paradox here Which is: USSR made a huge focus on spreading the 19th c Euro culture, and imposing it on the subject populace That is a diplodocus in the room that remains unnoticed because it is goes against *every* discourse
@kamilkazani The way Russia manages to combine high culture with the lowest forms of brutality never ceases to amaze me.

Allied soldiers walk beneath another arch in 1943. The arch seems to be the entrance to a camp (or 'colonia') for children and family of the 'Railway Militia' responsible for policing Italy's railways.

The arch was installed ahead of Mussolini's visit to the town, with Fascist youth seemingly arranged by age standing on the arch. Graffiti in the above image, to the right, reads 'Duce!'

The Newport Arch - the remains of the north gateway to Roman Lincoln (Lindum Colonia). Built in around 200 AD, the arch is the only Roman gateway in the UK still used by traffic. #RomanBritain #Lincoln @KPW1453 image turned into a Gif.
