I loved the Terry English helmet designs in John Boorman's 'Excalibur' (1981) they were exaggerated versions of pig face basinets & armets and although mocked by some, you just have to look at medieval examples to see armour smiths could make bizarre designs when they wanted.

'Freelance' in modern terms is someone working for themselves in a second job. However in medieval times it was the lance of the knight offered to fight local conflicts for financial gain. A lance was not just a spear it was a small unit of men, A knight, Men at Arms, Archers etc

The battle of Boroughmuir in 1335 thru the streets of Edinburgh the English army fled to the ruins of the Castle. One young knight charged Richard Shaw & didn't swerve. Both knights were killed, impaled by their lances. The knight was stripped of armour and found to be a girl!

Elgin Cathedral, the "Lantern of the North", from the top of its vertiginous north tower. A church was first built here in the 1200s & despite major setbacks the cathedral thrived until the Reformation of 1560 @UndisScot Post turned into a reconstruction mock-up. #ElginCathedral

Spynie Palace (Scotland) @UndisScot image & reconstruction. The fortified residence of the Bishops of Moray. Surprisingly the Wolf of Badenoch didn't attack Spynie when burning Elgin Cathedral to annoy Bishop Moray in 1390. It may be the Wolf's Father told him not to attack it.
