Great. Let the world be crazier.
400 job cuts announced at Cardiff University. The Vice Chancellor has said “not to change was not an option.” Maybe the Vice Chancellor could propose a change to her £290,000 salary or give her company car back. UCU will deliver a widespread fightback against these attacks.

About the figure: - accuracy (y-axis): the higher the better - fluency (x-axis): the smaller the quicker - proficiency (color): the redder (at some point the whiter 🤣) the greater

Check out our new paper in Research Methods in Applied Linguistics! 🥁 We introduced a fluency measure to the elicited imitation task and showed how it adds to accuracy to give a more nuanced picture of L2 proficiency. Open access: https://t.co/8qIg3qHOwy
New paper out 🎺 introducing process-based measures of automatisation in L2 The elicited imitation task is widely used as a measure of automatized L2 knowledge. However, the scoring of the task relies exclusively on product-based measures (i.e., accuracy of L2 production).

Check out our newly published study for how first language listeners’ expectations of the speaker (prompted by accent) determine their perception of grammatical errors, and how the listener personality plays a non-linear role! 🧐 @CUEngCommPhilos @tandfonline
New paper now out, Open Access: A foreign accent protects against being penalised for grammatical errors, depending on personality type @petarmilin @HuiSunSLA @LeverhulmeTrust @Eng_Lang_UoB @LCAHM_UoB @EDACS_UoB @UoBLibServices @uob_bear

For those who are new to corpus linguistics, #LancsSS24 is a great opportunity to get a general idea about what you can do with corpora in your research and teaching, and the tools/methods to use. Plus, you get to know a bunch of people who share the interest! Thank you! 👏👏👏
A last farewell from @danagablas. What a few days it’s been! #LancsSS24 For anyone interested in studying corpus linguistics further, the MOOC in Corpus Linguistics takes place in Sept 2024 and various degree programs are also available. Information on these can be seen below:
