Liut is also a 2012 inductee of the Connecticut Hockey Hall of Fame.

The Whalers in their prime. Before the team was sold to Gordon. Before the team traded off their star players.
The mall was rocking.
Hartford never deserved to lose the Whalers.
This will always be one of my favorite videos. 25 years ago today, The Rolling Stones were playing in Hartford on the same night UConn was playing in the National Championship game.
They showed the end of the game to the crowd at the Civic Center.
45 years of the iconic Hartford Whalers logo and branding.
The look that gave a team, and more importantly, the city of Hartford, an identity. Designed by the late Peter Good, who is a native of Hartford.
To Peter, we say thank you.

On this day in 1992: The Hartford Whalers unveiled brand new uniforms. After 20 years in green, navy blue became the team’s primary color. A revised version of the team’s logo was also introduced.

So sad to hear this news. Howie was a huge Whalers fan, interacting with us frequently here on Twitter. He’s standing in front of the fan holding the thank you sign. He worked at ESPN for over 25 years, starring on the show “Stump the Schwab.”
Thinking of his family, friends,
On this day in 1985: The Whalers acquired goaltender Mike Liut from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Mark Johnson, Greg Millen, and cash considerations.
I thought it would be a good time to share this video again.
This was shot back on March 29th, 1999 at a Rolling Stones concert at the Hartford Civic Center. The same night UConn won the national championship.
On this day in 1997: The Hartford Whalers and Boston Bruins squared off for the final time at the Hartford Civic Center.

Doesn’t matter if they are on national TV or not. I actually get to go to games with a fan base that supports them. Unlike Hartford “fans” did.
The Hartford Whalers and the fans shared a unique bond that you just don’t see in sports today. They were so much more than a logo, a jersey, and a song.
They were ours.

The matchup for the 2024 Stanley Cup Final is set.
How's this for a storyline? The last Hartford Whalers head coach. The most recent Wolf Pack head coach.
There’s always a Hartford connection. It should be a great series.

and of course, that means Brass Bonanza.
Congratulations to former Whalers goaltender Sean Burke, former Connecticut Whale forward Jonathan Marchessault, and the Vegas Golden Knights on winning the Stanley Cup!

“The Hartford Whalers were in a place where the fans, they truly loved their team. I don’t think they expected us to win a Stanley Cup, they just loved their team. They’re with them win or lose, and there’s not a lot of pro sports towns like that. That was the vibe from the

“You guys should totally sell the team and move to Hartford. We have the XL Center which would serve as a great, NHL sized venue to use temporarily while a new building is being built. The fan base here is great, too.”

The Hartford Whalers were so much more than just a logo, song, and jersey. It was a team that brought a small market into the big time. It was about a tight-knit fan base and the community. To so many, the team meant more than you could ever imagine.
22 years. Over 1,400 games played. Three retired numbers. One Adams Division title. A lifetime of memories.
Today, and every day, we remember our Hartford Whalers on the 25th anniversary of their final game played at the Civic Center.

Dead? Far from it.
On this day in 1978: At 4:19 AM, just hours following a UConn-UMass men’s basketball game, the roof of the Hartford Civic Center Coliseum collapsed.
Remarkably, no one was inside the arena at the time of the incident.
