Cameras and artificial intelligence are revolutionizing data collection in ecology. However, wildlife cameras capture more than just wildlife; they also tell us about the environmental challenges...
🚨New preprint!🚨 Wildlife cameras capture more than just #wildlife. This #deeplearning model extracts sunshine, snow and hail from millions of images. The data help to explain #ecology on camera. https://t.co/4PSMOi6A4D

#eDNA samples were collected from air, water and surfaces nearly continuous for the 24 hours!! Metabarcoding on site had species detections before the 24 hours was even up! We just demonstrated it is possible to rapidly survey a rainforest in less than 24 hours with 🧬🤯!
🧬 In the last 24 hours, @ETHBiodivX's rovers and drones sampled #eDNA and images through the dense canopy of tropical forests of Singapore. Next up: 48h data analysis phase! Join our #CitizenScience workshop, and be part of our @xprize journey. Visit: https://t.co/EuGTAIPgsv

Incredible #insect #diversity is a challenge for camera-based #insectmonitoring. Through a massive effort @PollinatorWatch, we publish a benchmark dataset, greatly improved #deeplearning models and a way foward. See our preprint

Reported insect declines have dramatically increased the global demand for standardized insect monitoring data. Image-based monitoring can generate such data cost-efficiently and non-invasively....

Looking very much forward to this webinar tomorrow!
📸🐝 Is automated monitoring of pollinators possible? Can cameras in the field and AI image processing really do what an ecologist can? Find out at out webinar on 10th November including talks from @LucaPegoraro3 @Claire_Carvell @HjalteMann

Last week I successfully defended my PhD!🍾 I am excited to be continuing my work as a post doc @AU_Biodiversity the next couple of years. Right now I'm working on generic insect detection in images based on CNNs trained on synthetic insects. The future is now!

Setting up 12 of our #computervision and #AI enabled moth traps as a pilot of large-scale, long-term, automated #insectmonitoring. Project funded and hosted by @AVJNF. Traps are harmless to insects as they are simply imaged. Looking forward to the novel data streams!
