Many people don't realise one guy is behind a lot of the record covers they know so well. This is one of the things we will highlight in a permanent @HistoryofSMC Exhibition #DavidThomas

Strawberry Switchblade, in the latter part of the band's existence, around 1986. Although it's a monochrome photo, they were wearing uncharacteristically colourful stuff this day. (📸©️Peter McArthur, used with permission)

I found this, Isobel drew this as a birthday gift one year, maybe 1997. I hope she doesn’t mind me posting. It does well to show the pair of us, engaged in music, engaged in creating, a close bond, an eventful time!

While on holiday in New York a few years back I was asked to guest at Laurie Anderson’s The Kitchen. I thought I’d sing Piazza, New York Catcher.I had never played guitar on that song so I asked David Byrne to accompany me, which he kindly did..

My wife has a special birthday today, I am picking pictures to put up for her party, I think she looks pretty rad on the Fans Only cover. You can’t hide your love for ever.😉

My wife took this one of me, sometime in the 2000s. Before kids, everyday was a dressing up day.

It wasn’t part of the plan, but after I shot the first sleeve, I kept going, with friends, occasionally band members, just whoever was around. It was fitting because sometimes the songs were about them.
@nee_massey This is incredibly naïve of me, but I didn't realise the covers were your work. I just assumed they were from films you liked. It feels more wholesome now that they are people near to you.

41 years ago this week, December 1984, if you were rushing out to buy the latest Smash Hits you'd have found Strawberry Switchblade on their first ever national magazine cover.

In 2006 we started what was to be a long tour. It took a few gigs to get the wind up, I was struggling with the shape of the set. By about the fifth night in Newcastle it started to flow. I was so relieved I got Iain (production) to laminate the set and I wore it round my neck😊
