We've unveiled a national blue plaque for footballer John ‘Jack’ Leslie in Plymouth. 🔵 This year marks 100 years since Leslie became the first Black footballer to be called up for England in October 1925, only for the offer to be rescinded shortly afterwards.

Wonderful to be @cecilsharphouse last night for the launch of @nee_massey novel Nobody's Empire. Great conversation, readings, and a couple of acoustic tunes including the @bellesglasgow song that the book takes its name from.

The idea that Britain is a ‘powder keg’ because of its diversity is in itself stunningly racist. Millions of us live in diverse families bound by ties of love & respect that are as combustible as granite.

Two small but significant items in @FootballMuseum collections: pin-badges from some of the anti-fascist fan groups that were formed in the late 1970s and 1980s in response to the activities of the National Front.

I’m a doctor originally from Afghanistan who is now proudly serving people of all backgrounds in NHS. Despite the fear of violence against my faith & background, I won't be intimated. UK is my home & I will continue to help anyone who needs it. We shouldn't give in to racism.

Real pleasure to write this article. Thank you for the opportunity! #paris2024olympics
“Olympic Games Doomed” and “No more Olympic Games,” read headlines published after the 1924 Paris Olympic Games. Historian Luke J. Harris (@drljharris) writes about the politics and precarity of the Olympic project a century ago.
