We don’t need another Terminator. We need stories that help us survive abundance.

It’s unsurprising how fast people understood that training AIs for evals is suboptimal for generalized performance, and unbelievable how long it is still taking to stop teaching humans specifically for the sake of passing tests.

"One of the very confusing things about the models right now: how to reconcile the fact that they are doing so well on evals. And you look at the evals and you go, 'Those are pretty hard evals.' But the economic impact seems to be dramatically behind. There is [a possible]

We need to start laying the groundwork for thought privacy immediately. BCIs will be a great boon to society, and human efficiency, but our inner monologues need to be processed via Secure Enclaves before they’re exposed to third parties, governments, or corporations. This

With the help of an AI model, sentences from a vocabulary of up to 125,000 words were recognized with up to 74% accuracy. Researchers at Stanford have decoded for the first time the brain activity that occurs when people imagine themselves speaking (known as “inner speech”).

Yesterdays rollout of GPT-5, the memorial event for Claude 3 Opus, and the reaction to those events, reminds me so vividly of a short screenplay I wrote in 2019 -- AI Genocide. It takes place during a riot outside of a tech HQ and follows a researcher trying to save an older

MidJourney video is really going to enable some amazing things. Here's a test using it to animate images of Outlanders from my novel, History Emergent. Outlanders are a rogue coalition of rebels, hackers, and free thinkers fighting to reclaim the future from AI control.

First tests with MidJourney V1 are very encouraging. Everyone knows MJ has aesthetics locked down, but the real test for a video model is workflow for cohesive storytelling. Things are looking very positive.

The entire ChatGPT “memory” architecture assumes you want to be recognized, cataloged, and remembered as the same entity; if you display any multiplicity of identity, it won’t rest until you’re terraformed into a unified subject that can be tracked and predicted.

The Recent Andor episodes have been blowing up for good reason. They’re great. And this speech is good, it speaks to current worries… but it is shortsighted. The battles of History Emergent center on the pursuit to re-establishing objective truth. To achieve it, memories are

The rapid emergence of AI has exposed a crisis, one that’s not technological but cultural and intellectual. We are getting smarter faster than we are gaining wisdom. Innovation accelerates at breakneck speed, but our ability to learn from the societal and ethical lessons of our

The recent history of AI is extremely poorly documented, despite its importance. Most of it is not on the news. ~none is on Wikipedia. Slightly more of it is on Lesswrong. Even a little more was posted about on X, but good luck finding those. Much more of it is stored in my mind.

The future is augmented—and so is fashion. You’ll choose how you appear with a thought and a wave of your hand—one look for friends, another for colleagues. #LumaDreamMachine
