An inspirational and emotional moment at Durant HS’s graduation when Kolton Smith walked across the stage. He was paralyzed from the waist down after a horrible car accident last summer. He was determined to walk across the stage to receive his diploma today.

Senior Ridhwani Fleurival accepted his son’s diploma. Staff&students gave him a standing ovation. They also paused for a moment of silence. The 18 yr old passed away unexpectedly last week. He had plans to become a physician.

Congratulations to our incoming Superintendent Addison Davis! Our School Board hired the veteran educator who began as a teacher. He is currently Clay County Superintendent where he has helped increase the graduation rate to 91.9% and the percentage of "A" and "B" schools to 92%.
HCPS is working closely with the EOC as Tropical Storm Ian continues its trek towards FL. County emergency officials will activate many of our schools as storm shelters beginning Monday. Because of this, our district has no choice but to close schools Sept. 26 - Sept 29.

Joe Perricone passed away yesterday at 96.
Mr. Perricone left Hillsborough High his senior year to serve in the US Army during WWII & missed graduation.
Last year, he proudly walked across that stage.
His grandson says it was the highlight of the last year of his life ❤️
David Brown, who opened Strawberry Crest High as Principal 10 years ago, will now open another new high school. He was appointed Principal of our new high school, being built in Riverview, at today’s Board Meeting. The new school opens in August 2020.

Hundreds of families across our county picked up FREE breakfast and lunch meals at our 23 school sites this morning.
Beginning next week, our district is opening up 100 MORE SITES to better serve our community.
Students must be present in order to receive the meals.
This evening, Board members voted to extend the existing mask mandate for an additional 30 days. The mask mandate is now in place until October 15, 2021. The Board allows for a medical exemption opt-out of the mask mandate.

Today, we surpassed 1 million Grab-and-Go meals served to our students since school closures began. Thank you to our Student Nutrition Services team for tirelessly working to make sure children have access to nutritious meals during virtual learning!
Our incoming Superintendent Addison Davis officially signed his contract at today’s School Board meeting. He will start as the Acting Superintendent March 2 & work side-by-side with Superintendent Jeff Eakins during a transition period.
