I think it's fine as long as users actually move to the authentication apps and not just ditch MFA totally.
Have been seeing a lot of chatter about Twitter moving SMS 2FA to the paid tier, it turns out the reason is fraud. There were 390 low tier 'telcos' out there running bots to trigger the SMS send and raking in 60m USD a year. Regular MFA is still available - Thoughts?.
