@SouthwestAir Also @SouthwestAir your gate agents Kris’s wildest comment was the “the FAA or @USDOT aren’t the boss” Make that make sense to me because I’m pretty sure they’re the ones who make the policies.

Your website, the FAA, and DOT seem to say that I do and that everyone does. It seems to me that as a musician I now have to drive everywhere because your employee stated there are no laws to be followed when flying with @SouthwestAir. What other laws are you not following?

Then he repeated himself. I asked if the call was being recorded and he responded “no”. Break this down so not only did your automated system lie at the beginning of the call but you now are telling a customer they have “no rights”. So tell me @SouthwestAir I don’t have rights?

Michael stated he “believes the gate shouldn’t have been rude” We pull out the different policies in place on top of how outlandish this gate agent acted during the event. Back and forth goes on for a minute and then he states “you have no rights when flying with @SouthwestAir”

Now let’s get to the phone call. Michael responded to our email and said to give him a call about this matter. So we do. When getting on the call your normal automated message of “this call is being recorded for quality assurance” rang out as always.

This is the amount of free bin space when I boarded the plane. @SouthwestAir keep in mind I’ve flown with a guitar numerous times over the years. Have a lot of friends who’ve done the same.

Southwest policy also states that I can carry an instrument on board if there is room. As an AList member with the service I had plenty of room on the plane when boarding in my group and also with my friends and wife flying without overhead bin baggage we had room for the guitar

Sunday there was a gate agent who wasn’t going to allow me or my wife on the flight if we didn’t gate check my guitar. Department of Transportation regulation 14 CFR Part 251 that a guitar cannot be looked at different than any other carryon item.

In past flights I’ve had many different guitars in the bins for safe keeping. We’ve all seen the horror stories of baggage attendants throwing around anyone’s luggage in general, I’ve seen many guitars come back with broken parts. This wasn’t even my biggest case I’ve flown with

Sunday we were headed to Vegas for National Finals Rodeo. I had interviews set up this week and had to have the equipment to do my job, in my case my guitar. We had a total of 4 tickets between us and friends. None of us had overhead bin baggage. We checked bags.

What are my rights when flying @SouthwestAir or any airline? @USDOT

Hey @SouthwestAir your employee Michael Reitz just told me on a supposed “recorded call” that I “Have No Rights” in regard to when I have a flight with your company. This all started because a gate agent in Denver wouldn’t let me fly with my guitar in an overhead bin. See thread
