“If I die, I want a loud death. I don’t want to be just breaking news…I want a death that the world will hear.” She was about to get married; a film about her life in Gaza had just been finished. 10 of her family were killed with her. https://t.co/pcrk38eEnB

A 450-yo oak is felled without permission/consultation by @tobycarvery, who falsely claimed it was "dead". A tree alive when The Gunpowder Plot was hatched, which supports a web of 2000+ species, is in pieces. Legal protection for heritage trees needed. https://t.co/gUygaCbyDF

The owner of the pub chain falsely claimed the tree was dead as justification for the felling which has shocked local people and prompted outrage from conservationists across the country

This isn't Beatrix Potter, but these two certainly are! Beatrix's entire life was caught on camera from a young age, as her father Rupert was a keen photographer. Many of his photographs are now kept in the V&A, and in National Trust collections 📸

National Trust family membership costs £14.05 a month. A daily telegraph subscription costs £104 a month. And don’t even get me started on what you get for your money in each case…
A misleading headline. This figure refers to LIFETIME membership of the National Trust, for a whole family, and it should say so. Ordinary family membership still costs around the same as one takeaway coffee a week.

researching the histories of open space activism in Manchester & Salford has changed how I connect with my hometown, where I once thought my love for hills & moorland and open air was irrelevant. I'm excited to share some of these stories on 19th March: https://t.co/I1V9SUehWh

Calling all #Manchester #history friends - please do join us at the Mechanics for the Margaret Ashton Lecture. We love celebrating women's lives across Greater Manchester who so often are overshadowed - Shena Simon was a true trailblazer and we can't wait to champion her story!
If you're local to Manchester, love radical women's history and a cup of tea, you'll want to join me at the Mechanics Institute (birthplace of the TUC) for a celebration of the incredible Shena Simon, a pioneer of women's rights, education & housing. https://t.co/4R9TS2dsuB

My book, 100 Things to Wear: Fashion From the Collections of the National Trust (co-authored with the incredible Emma Slocombe) is now available to pre-order on Amazon. I'll be buying all my copies from my local @nationaltrust shop, but this is really hugely exciting!

@BFirstParty Imagine being so fragile that a group of people praying in the countryside feels like a ‘takeover.’ Newsflash: the British countryside isn’t your gated community—it belongs to everyone. Maybe step outside and experience it yourself. You might find some peace.
