I echo @antonioguterres: famine in Gaza is a man-made disaster. The deliberate collapse of essential systems is costing lives — incl. children. Obligations under international law must be met. We urgently need a ceasefire, unimpeded humanitarian access & the release of hostages.

As the close of #TICAD9, I thank African and Japan leadership for a robust & successful event. As a co-organizer, @UNDP welcomes TICAD’s outcome document as a strong framework for advancing our shared commitments on trade, climate action & development in Africa.

#TICAD9 | With innovative tools like blended finance, green bonds, & sustainability-linked loans, @UNDP helps governments to free up fiscal space for investments in infrastructure, jobs & social protection, unlocking sustainable growth for Africa.

A great #TICAD9 session looking at development progress in Africa through a whole-of-society lens. We explored how inclusive, people centered strategies, focusing on youth & women, grounded in co-creation, can empower the next generation to lead development in Africa.

A pleasure to meet Ambassador Ryo Nakamura, DG for Global Issues at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. @UNDP & @UNCDF value our strong partnership with Japan & discussed deepening our collaboration to scale private sector financing for sustainable development.

At #TICAD9, we heard about the refugee experience from @IshimweShem. We also explored issues affecting refugees & host communities in Africa, and the joint 🇯🇵 & @UNDP HDP Nexus Multi-Stakeholder Pledge, which promotes a whole-of-society approach to the displacement crisis.

Great to meet with H.E. Mohamud Abdirahman Sheikh Farah, Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development of the Federal Republic of Somalia. We discussed Somalia's development gains & national planning. I reiterated @UNDP's unwavering support for its SDG progress.

A pleasure to meet with H.E. João Lourenço, President of Angola & Chairperson of @_AfricanUnion. I reaffirmed @UNDP's continued commitment to assist Angola to advance the #AU Champion of Peace & Reconciliation Agenda.

Delighted to meet @Diop_IFC, MD @IFC_org. We discussed how partnerships and capital are key to unlocking #timbuktoo, @UNDP’s bold flagship initiative to boost strong startup ecosystems and mobilize local capital to scale startups across Africa.

A great pleasure to meet with H.E. President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe. We discussed Zimbabwe’s leadership in promoting global peace, security, and multilateral dialogue, and I reiterated @UNDP’s support to Zimbabwe on its important development journey.

Financing the #SDGs adequately can accelerate progress. At the Joint SDG Fund #TICAD9 event "Unlocking Africa's Potential & scaling innovative financing for SDG Transitions", I spoke about tools like INFFs that can unlock hundreds of billions in financing to achieve the #SDGs.
