I have deep criticisms of Captain Cheapass for how he managed the overall project but my takeaway from the documentaries was that the idea was totally sound with more patient execution.

The takeway from the Oceangate Titan is actually that you can wing it from first principles and it works just fine a dozen times. You're just meant to improve on that initial concept after the real world tests.

Here's my summarized testing timeline of the report including the testing and implosion highlights: Design goal: 6,000m with 2.25SF or 13,500m implosion depth 2015: Simulation says implosion depth of 13,200m so they go ahead and make sub-scale tests 2016: Sub-scale testing

If you know anything about human nature, certainly in the modernoid gestalt, you'll see that "revelation of the method" happens emergently. No need for formal ritual, because the conscience is integral to the function of the mind, people *need* to confess like they need sleep.

With the Voting Rights Act in front of SCOTUS today, it’s worth remembering Nix v. Holder, an obscure legal case from President Obama’s first term. Many have argued that the VRA primarily exists today to elect Democrats. It’s no theory: Democrats admitted it! Thread.

Reminder that if you pick 5 midwestern chuds and put them in a Big 10 school - you end up with an anesthesiologist, Big 10 AD, two successful investors, and a high school football coach. 5/5 productive members of society 5/5 could grind this condescending dork into a fine dust

Cutting off funded graduate programs to foreign students would mainly hurt state universities. Harvard and MIT could attract enough reasonably qualified domestic PhD students to replace international. Nebraska? Lol no.

At what point is it actually more advantageous to use an ancient version of Windows due to the active userbase being so small that its no longer targeted and the general digital rot of time silencing passive WinXP/Vista/7 specific malware?

Eighty-three years ago, a Gujarati man arrived in the United States illegally by boat and bought a motel off a California highway. That single purchase set off a chain reaction - of handshake loans, SBA guarantees, clan loyalties, and quiet migrations. Today, seventy percent of

I just realized Brunei is in Southeast Asia and is just a copy-pasted Arab Oil State. It really says something about Christians versus Muslims that they have absolutely no historical record for how their religion arrived there.

We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right. Now that we have

This is not true. Cars are tested against standard impact surfaces and test sleds regardless of car size or class. The IIHS is the same.

Did you guys know that the way crash test safety regulations work is that cars are only collision tested against cars in the same class? This is because if anybody who cares about safety saw the data for a sedan getting hit by a truck, they would never buy another sedan ever

the funniest thing that happened today was learning that HR literally has a big green button that says "ADVANCE", and a big red one that says "REJECT WITHOUT EMAIL". fisher-price ass job. reminder that 1 in 68 working women are in HR.

The problem for the Democrats is that they are stuck in a doomloop as Obama I and Biden I conclusively proved delivering on the promise of Obammunism is impossible and what they came up with to placate the base under Obama II (Anti-White Spoils Grift) is politically corrosive.

This is what more than half of Blue America wants and thinks they're going to get by voting Blue. This is also why one the few consequential legislative actions of the Biden admin was a big Blue State bailout so that they could keep running up the tab in these sectors

Columbus thread time. Columbus was not an idiot. He spent his life since the age of 14 at sea or engaged in nautical trade, and had extensive experience with navigation and cartography. He was deeply embedded in the merchant class at the time.
