Astonishing - noises made by thick ice when it's expanding and contracting here sound like gunfire.
The sound of lake Baikal. Ice has the ability to expand and contract, resulting in cracks that cause vibrations. These vibrations travel at varying speeds through the ice, producing this sound . A phenomena called acoustic dispersion. 📹 lake.baikal.
