Call me soft all you want, but a 21-year-old kid looking like this after a total of 15 minutes of ice time should not be allowed.
His brain isn’t even close to fully developed. CTE is no joke.
I’ve lost 10 followers already for live-tweeting PWHL hockey, lol.
Women’s hockey is going to keep growing, with or without those who dislike it so much they want it off their feed entirely. Good riddance! 👋
There’s a reason “Hockey Is For Everyone” as a message pisses me off.
It’s not. Hockey isn’t for everyone. But hockey *should be* for everyone.
Pretending it currently is, is disingenuous and enables the NHL to ban pride tape, refuse to collaborate with the HDA, and much more.
Watching a player get ragdolled on the bench by a member of the organization against whom he can’t fight back, then trying to normalize it and calling people “soft” for finding it unacceptable… wow.
The culture needs to change.
Hi, my name is Hadi. I'm an Arab who's desperately trying to make it in the hockey industry.
This is how some of my potential colleagues/employers perceive my culture. Many of them are in positions of authority and/or hiring power, across various sectors of the hockey world. 1/
Friendly reminder that the in-person attendance for today’s Montreal-Ottawa PWHL game was almost twice the max capacity of the Mullett Arena of the Arizona Coyotes.
Just saying since attendance keeps coming up as a rebuttal to the excitement surrounding the PWHL. 🤷
The Leafs suffered a 4-1 loss, and somehow all of the cameras are pointed at the guy who played under seven minutes in that game.
Which is exactly why Ryan Reaves was brought in. This might just work really well for the Leafs.
For reference, when Cale Makar won the Hobey-Baker in 2019 he put up 49 points in 41 games.
Lane Hutson’s season isn’t even done, and he has 48 points in 38 games… and doesn’t even make the final three nominees.
Makar was 20 in that season, Hutson just turned 19.
Snubbed.
In celebration of Brad Lambert’s first NHL point, a quick story:
I was standing right behind the Colorado table at the 2022 NHL Draft.
The moment the Jets picked him at 30th, the entire Avs table, including Joe Sakic, dropped their heads in disappointment. They wanted him bad.
Just a reminder that the Blue Jackets essentially got Cole Sillinger, a first-round pick, Adam Boqvist and Jake Bean for whatever the hell Seth Jones is supposed to be at this point
Quick story time:
Hearing Don Cherry give his “you people who come here” rant on the biggest stage in world hockey almost made me quit.
Especially after seeing people I followed back him up… I thought, if this is what it’s like, I want no part in it.
Say what you want about Don Cherry but it’s absurd he’s not already in the Hockey Hall of Fame’s Builder category.
Hopefully he gets his roses while he can still smell them. 👍🏻
When an immensely successful coach becomes a GM… you get this.
A+++ draft philosophy, and A+++ idea to verbalize it to the press. Takes your scouts out of “I have to keep my job” mode and into “let’s gamble” mode.
Barry Trotz, on the upcoming draft, says he told his scouts to “take some swings, take some high end swings on some guys”
Then adds: “I can find you 3rd line, 4th line guys, no problem. Go get me some guys that get people out of their seats.”
The ruthless piling-on of Hockey Twitter against Leah Hextall just shows how much shorter the leash is for women in hockey, and how unconscious biases are far more insidious than conscious ones.
She has one Pierre McGuire moment, and the whole damn website caves in on itself. 🧵
Day 5 sober. Officially the longest I've gone without it in three years.
Two days away from my first week. From what I've heard, it gradually gets easier after then. I'll post weekly about my progress from that point onwards. I can do this.
If you finish bottom 5 in the NHL and your third pick in the draft is Florian Xhekaj at 101st overall while having added zero potential superstars with your first two… that’s a loss, no matter how you cut it.
I’m honestly scratching my eyes every time Juraj Slafkovsky hops on the ice.
He looks completely different from last year and his DY. There’s a calculated awareness to his game that hasn’t been there anytime I’ve watched him before his last preseason game.
Final thoughts on the
#GoHabsGo
scrimmage game, while I wait for my internet to come back on after a lightning strike:
- Lane Hutson and David Reinbacher on the same pair forever, please and thank you. Was really impressed with Reinbacher’s play-reading and OZ activation. 1/6
6 months fully clean today. 3 years since I started my journey.
Slip ups happen often when not slipping up matters most. But I live with my decisions.
I lost my partner of 6 years because of my addiction. I lost friends, damaged my relationship with my family… that’s on me.
I’ll be fully transparent: I had Juraj Slafkovský ranked 3rd overall in his draft year.
I thought both Shane Wright’s intelligence and Frank Nazar’s combination of pace, skill and energy were better bets.
Never expected this kind of progression from Slaf. I was wrong.
Steals of the draft so far:
- Matvei Michkov (3rd on my board, went 7th to
#FueledByPhilly
)
- Zach Benson (5th on my board, went 13th to
#LetsGoBuffalo
)
- Oliver Moore (7th on my board, went 19th to
#Blackhawks
)
- Quentin Musty (13th on my board, went 26th to
#SJSharks
)

If this was murder, there wouldn’t be any beating around the bush and concealing names.
If this was armed robbery, or battery, or even betting on games, we’d have names already.
Expose & arrest them. Enough “eyes-emoji-ing” and building suspense. They raped someone.
Andy Strickland on Cam and Strick today said it’s likely “5 players” will be facing NHL suspensions for their involvement in the 2018 WJC sexual assault scandal. Said he knows the names but won’t say them now.
“Some significant names” 👀
Lane Hutson has grown an inch and is officially listed as 5’10.
Not that it matters. Leads all NCAA defencemen in points with 27 in 22 gp. Top 20 in league scoring overall. Probably a Hobey Baker finalist by the end of this year.
How he slipped to 62 is beyond me.
It'd be much less hurtful without the weaponry, which firmly attaches the concept of violence to anyone who looks or dresses like this.
It still hurts without it, though. We're not costumes for you to caricature and bastardize.
Seamus Casey (
#NJDevils
) played at center for Michigan in their latest NCAA matchup — he scored two goals, added an assist, and was 9/14 in the faceoff circle.
For those who don’t know, Seamus Casey is a defenceman.
Day 7 sober.
The worst week of my life is over. I'm looking ahead with hope and excitement, knowing that a new chapter of my life is beginning. Everyone's support has kept me going in more ways than one. Thank you all, truly.
I can do this.
Revisiting
#GoHabsGo
Arber Xhekaj's fight and the ensuing gesture which led to him being suspended by the OHL for three games. He is set to return to the lineup tonight for Kitchener vs. Owen Sound.
I think most fans don’t really grasp what Nick Suzuki means in this market.
After watching David Desharnais play 1C for half a decade, Suzuki is a breath of fresh air. The Habs have a true first line center.
#GoHabsGo
scrimmage notes:
- Lane Hutson is ridiculous. He’s a one-man show out there so far, and even improved his ability to make plays through physical contact & pressure
- Jakub Dobeš was solid in his stint between the pipes. Stopped a penalty shot with a strong read & push.
Geoff Molson: "The two people who convinced Marie-Philip Poulin to join the organization were Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes, I congratulate them for that."
#GoHabsGo
NHL scout: would you rather fight 100 bee-sized horses or one horse-sized bee?
Prospect: uhhh... I'll have to think about that if I'm honest, but I'm leaning towards the bee-sized horses
NHL scout: *nods in agreement, adds a green check next to prospect's name*
I’m not going to say this lightly:
I haven’t been this mesmerized with a NCAA defenseman’s offensive skill since Cale Makar was at UMass.
Lane Hutson is nothing short of a genius.
Just my two cents on Cutter Gauthier not wanting to play for the Flyers:
Imagine if wanting to work in a different city made all of your company’s customers grab pitchforks.
Now imagine you had no say in starting at that company.
NHL prospects are people.
All due respect to Rachel, this just isn’t the level of analysis I expected from her.
Slafkovský has been the second-best player on an NHL team (not a good one, but still) at 19. No other player in the ‘22 draft is even remotely close to his level.
Kind of early for “bust”, no?
@HabsOnReddit
Maybe listen to the entire pod? We said he’d be a solid middle-six guy on a contender. A 1st overall pick should be a top line star averaging a point per game. So he’s not a bust as a prospect. He’s not 1st overall calibre compared to value a team should expect from 1OA.
Lane Hutson on Adam Nicholas:
"One thing I took away from our time together was the timing of plays and the development of plays, and how to create space for yourself. When I watch video now, I'm seeing the things that Adam was stressing when I was in Montreal in the summer."
13 years of ignoring Akim Aliu’s existence only to pop up in his DMs when he’s got a job opportunity lined up.
Bill Peters should be having trouble getting hired at Wendy’s. There are more than enough perfectly good, non-racist candidates to go around the CHL.
Screw. This.
NEWS: Sounds like ex-Flames coach Bill Peters could resurface as head coach of WHL Lethbridge Hurricanes, as
@gdrinnan
first reported. Might happen as soon as Wed.
Peters resigned in 2019 after Akim Aliu said the coach directed racial epithets toward him in the minors. (1/2)
This isn't an isolated thing. I've had fellow students, teachers, and employers show up dressed as "Arabs" with some sort of taqiyyah or hijab accompanied by some form of weaponry. One kid showed up at my school with a ticking strap bomb under the exact "costume" seen here.
Friendly reminder that Alex Galchenyuk will probably never see your tweets making fun of him, but your friends and followers who are struggling with or recovering from addiction definitely will.
If anyone in Toronto sees William Nylander as the problem, give your head a shake.
Stepped up massively in this series. Not sure what more he could’ve done.
Filip Mešár (
#GoHabsGo
) strips a Czech player and sets up Martin Misiak, who can't convert.
Mešár leading by example out there in the 2nd period. Making things happen every shift.
#WorldJuniors
"I was on the fence."
@FriedgeHNIC
sat down with Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron and asked him about the team's signing of renounced Coyotes draft pick, Mitchell Miller.
Beyond the weird roster choices from Canada, their best players were simply not good enough.
Matt Savoie struggled. Easton Cowan, too. Their captain, Fraser Minten, did not play well.
Canada had to rely on a 17-year-old and a checking line to get them through. Insufficient.
1:05 of Lane Hutson using head fakes, stops, edgework and slick moves to misdirect opponents and open passing lanes.
This is from one game, against a top NCAA program. Two more to go till I'm done collecting data and footage for my next video scouting report.
#GoHabsGo
With Pavel Mintyukov, Tristan Luneau, Noah Warren, Rodwin Dionicio and more on the horizon, the Anaheim Ducks could afford to trade Jamie Drysdale.
The return is solid. Cutter Gauthier is going to be a long-term top-six forward for them.
Elite asset management. Elite trade.
If Juraj Slafkovsky doesn’t even get an experimental “might as well” look on the top line with RHP injured… what’s the point of keeping him in the NHL?
Five months ago today, I went to bed stoned, single for the first time in almost six years, quietly praying i wouldn't wake up.
Today, I've been sober for five months. I'm accredited for the 2022 NHL Draft, and celebrating with my loving, caring partner.
Keep pushing.
In case you’re wondering,
#GoHabsGo
Riley Kidney is up to 46 points in 18 QMJHL games since getting traded to the Gatineau Olympiques.
You didn’t read that wrong. 46 points in 18 games.
My
#2024NHLDraft
scouting season is about to start, and this top four already looks insane.
Macklin Celebrini
Cole Eiserman
Ivan Demidov
Aron Kiviharju
There’s a steep-ish drop-off in talent after that, but wow. Another decent tank year.
Found this really interesting: with Slovakia down by 1 after the 1st period, Filip Mešár gets interviewed. Talked enthusiastically about his group, sticking to the game plan, coming out strong in the 2nd.
Then it’s Jiri Kulich’s turn in the 2nd intermission. (1/2)
On a scale from 1 to 10, how much do you think Kent Hughes regrets not trading Josh Anderson last year?
Can’t name you a player whose value tanked more over the last 12 months.
Seeing half the TL go from calling Slafkovsky a bust to adoring him within the same calendar year makes me laugh.
It’s almost like he’s 19 years old and still developing. If this is him a year into his post-draft career, imagine five years from now.
Juraj Slafkovsky has impressed me more in the last two periods than he has in the last year combined.
His execution is on point. A lot more little details done right.
3000 children dead, a population about to be wiped out from their homeland and we’re talking about…what shoes protesters are wearing.
If I was half as insensitive and unilateral on this issue as Jesse has been, I’d be blacklisted from so. many. jobs.
Just want you all to see this.
In the last 23 years, only one NCAA defenseman put up more points per game in his Draft + 1 year than Lane Hutson has so far: Adam Fox.
Fox was facing weak competition in the Ivy League. Hutson is doing this from the 2nd pair/2nd PP for BU.
I genuinely do not understand what the mindset was in this year’s draft for Montreal. Every pick was off the board.
Not a single — or at least very few — plus-value picks. Didn’t pick up any high-upside fallers. Desperately tried to fill a need in the blue paint.
Very, very mid
Can’t stress how well-placed Oliver Moore is in Chicago long-term.
He’s got everything you want out of a top-six C, but will never need to be a first-liner as long as Connor Bedard is there. He can play his high-pace, high-octane game without the pressure of being a 1C.
Joshua Roy could’ve been sent down to avoid waiving Mitchell Stephens, but he’s been really solid in his last two games and the Habs are likely looking to give him a longer stint to see if he can keep that up.
5th-round pick to WJC top-liner to NHL player. Unreal progression.
The moment everyone realized that not only Caufield’s size wouldn’t hold him back, but he could actually end up being a star in the NHL.
6-foot-3 Brayden McNabb couldn’t stop him, and neither could Robin “pre-scout” Lehner. High-skill goal in a high-stakes moment.
Just for fun, I thought I'd look at the best Draft +1 QMJHL point-per-game rates of the past 20 years, and... yeah.
Joshua Roy turns 19 in August. This is unheard of.
#GoHabsGo
As much as Slafkovsky’s lack of production worries me, he:
1) hasn’t even come close to being caught with his head down even once so far
2) started leaning into his playmaking game, which is his stronger offensive tool (and somehow that’s concerning to people?)
Martin St-Louis on Jonathan Drouin: "I want to see him play with more pace, play more free."
First time I've heard a coach demand more freedom of play from Drouin. It's refreshing.
Yeah… Jayden Struble is never leaving the NHL.
With the Habs getting rag dolled, he throws his body into one Hawk, reverse-hits the life out of another, and drops the gloves.
That’s how you earn everyone’s respect. Teammates, opponents, coaches… everyone.
Adam Fantilli has such a safe floor.
There’s virtually no chance he doesn’t become at the very least a solid 2C. The pace of play, the intensity, the forechecking savvy, and the puck skills combine so well.
Any team who drafts him is getting a near-guaranteed top six C.
Idk why so many Habs fans seem convinced that Logan Mailloux will be a top-pair defender when none of y'all have even watched him play. He's been sitting in press boxes for the past year and never played higher than mediocre Swedish div 3 hockey what is wrong with you all
Talk about an NHL-calibre release 🤩
@CanadiensMTL
first-round pick Filip Mešár restores Kitchener's three-goal lead with a textbook snipe!

Update: the WHKY community is THE BEST.
You all are so sweet. Gained five times the followers I lost today from live-tweeting the PWHL.
I promise this wasn’t the intention, lol. Just wanted to give those who can’t stand to see women’s hockey grow a send-off.
Much love ❤️
I’ve lost 10 followers already for live-tweeting PWHL hockey, lol.
Women’s hockey is going to keep growing, with or without those who dislike it so much they want it off their feed entirely. Good riddance! 👋
