On Wednesday January 15th, the HUD Pittsburgh Field Office joined the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh, URA, PHFA, and Beacon Communities for a groundbreaking at First and Market that will convert former office space to 93 units of affordable housing for seniors.

On January 14th, staff from the HUD Pittsburgh Field Office spent the morning providing hot drinks, meals, and clothing to community members in need at The Red Door in Downtown Pittsburgh. This site has been serving the community since 1929.

The HUD Pittsburgh Field Office met with the Executive Director and President of Semper Fi Mission to discuss housing opportunities for veterans and enhance access to shelters, transitional housing programs, and permanent housing solutions.

HUD and its partners broke ground for 53 apartment homes in The Flats for seniors in Wilmington Delaware. Using HUD Section 202 funding, the homes will house seniors like Crystal Baynard, a retired pre-school teacher, an artist, and a poet who currently lives at The Flats.

President Carter has been a beacon of hope for so many people over so many years. For the housing community, he demonstrated extraordinary leadership as a champion of affordable homeownership with his work with @Habitat_org. May he rest in peace.

President Jimmy Carter selected Patricia Harris to serve as the 6th Secretary of HUD, the first Black woman to serve as a member of the Cabinet.

Today, HUD awarded $12 million in grants to carry out affordable housing and community development activities for hard-working, low-income families in rural America.

There is a great need to repair aging homes and build new housing in rural communities, but financing this work can be challenging. These experienced non-profits will bridge the gap and help ensure we are improving the state of rural housing across the country.

HUD was in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania to kick off Thriving Communities Technical Assistance (TCTA) that will be used in conjunction with a $24.9 million Department of Transportation RAISE grant to ensure equitable development of new housing and resources for existing homeowners.

Today the HUD Pittsburgh Field Office joined the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, Department of Human Services, and Housing Finance Agency in New Kensington, Westmoreland County for a roundtable to discuss Pennsylvania’s first statewide housing plan.
