It’s Friday so that means it’s #KanjiChallenge time! Can you spot the difference? (Fun fact: Native Japanese speakers usually only have 5 seconds to answer these challenges!)

Kanji are Japanese characters which originally came from China around the 5th century. It's sometimes a headache for JPN learners, but it's extremely useful when you master it. We'll introduce some Kanji (selected by JIC staff) that looks similar. Can you spot the difference?

Since I feel like I haven't linked it in a while, this is a GREAT resource for Japanese language learning, and they do collections of new resources every few months: https://t.co/1aOr8EK2sO

Some cool upcoming virtual events at the Japanese Cultural Center in Chicago, should anyone be interested in checking them out (most cost money, but there's at least one free one tossed in there!): https://t.co/qoCPr7rJ7k

Japan’s Studio Ghibli Museum is closed temporarily, but staff members are creating video journals with sneak peeks inside the museum. Even when it’s open, this museum is infamously hard to get tickets for, so don’t miss your chance to take a look inside! https://t.co/lzwrjkB0kA

Who’s ready to eat? Today’s #JapanClassroom video from Ochikeron is about how to make #Omurice, Japanese omelette with fried rice and ketchup. It’s a popular dish in Japan, and it’s easy to make, too! Give it a try and show us picture of your omurice! https://t.co/CMOGJTsr04

I have visited all of these and they are beautiful, but Kairakuen retains a special place in my heart because I lived 30 minutes from it during my years teaching in Ibaraki.

For today’s #JapanClassroom, let’s make Koinobori! #Koinobori are Japanese windsocks shaped like carp that symbolize a wish for children to grow healthy and strong. You can see them all over the country around children’s day on May 5. Make your own today: https://t.co/J91SKdqPOY
