No one should ever qualify for the Candidates again without finishing first place in a qualification tournament. No more 2nd/3rd place. No convoluted points system. Win a tournament or you don’t play.

In all seriousness, one big reason this is bad is Hans is by no means a lock to make the final 8. If he makes it by half a point or point over someone, that person has a very legitimate grievance. Magnus forfeit doesn’t only affect him and Hans and IMO he should be disqualified

FIDEs reputation is shaky enough as it is. If you have issue with short draws, it would seem more professional to express it in another manner.

This is how it should be. The large majority of players are not masters. For chess to thrive there have to be broadcasts that cater to all levels of player, especially rank beginners (less than 1100!)
