Good nuance in the sub-traits of the big 5

The Big Five personality traits cluster into two loose, higher-order metatraits: plasticity and stability. Each Big Five trait also splits into two narrower sub-traits or “aspects,” which shed important additional light on how the Big Five work. [Link below.]

Related thought: many investment analysts are LARPing making $ for their firm & themselves - they are relating to money as a concept, the next grade to earn. Vs when someone is commercial & actually just wants to make $ (with no hang ups), there is an intensity & pragmatism.

If you’re on Twitter, you know at least one inner work addict. Do you think they’re genuinely making progress or just… “LARPing healing”?

Love this, when I’m hiring for certain roles I sometimes say to someone else “he / she’s an animal” & see whether I can keep a straight face. If so it’s almost always a good sign. Same vein as my friend who waits for the flash of fear that the candidate is going to replace him

This is amazing self talk, ever since reading it I've been trying to DJ this into heavy rotation on my kids' mental playlist: "Like almost everything in my life, iteration—one dumb step in front of the other, course-correcting as you go—is the only process I’m any good at." -

I started asking potential hires one question: “What’s your perfect job?” If their answer aligned with a role we needed, I hired them. The difference was immediate. People were energized, efficient, and proud of their work.

This frame may apply to most hires. And then when you do come across the “general contractor who is going to quickly build huge buildings” in your chosen field, it’s wise to try to grab all their capacity for as long as you can, even if it feels like you’re paying above mkt.

There must be general contractors out there who are close to perfect... but I bet they pretty quickly end up building huge buildings. So, if you're doing smaller deals, you're very likely going to work with contractors with some flaws (not enough experience, not enough

One of the best podcast conversations I've ever heard. Beyond the many zen koan-like insights, my biggest takeaway was more meta: listening to @GrahamDuncanNYC , you realize just how deep mastery goes (esp in ultra-competitive fields like high finance). There are levels, levels,

This is a great talent playbook by Citadel / Griffen - the brief window after a team is laid off or someone is fired and they no longer have a fiduciary duty to their former container often offers some alpha.

Can confirm this story. As head trader at Enron when it filed for bankruptcy, I received many calls from firms that were recruiting. I was busy trying to close out the trading book and wanted to take some time to decide my future so didn’t take any meetings. But Citadel was by

@QiaochuYuan @tasshinfogleman People often talk about “privilege” as if it’s mostly about money. I suspect the highest sort of privilege is ‘focused attention from high-quality nervous systems who try to teach you their best moves’ And love, of course, but there’s more overlap than people realize

Love this description of "predatory intensity" - the best hedge fund managers radiate that same aggressive humility frequency when they listen to someone critique their ideas "When you point out a problem to them, they not only listen, but listen with an almost predatory

I have been trying to catch the moment I move from relating to someone to “handling” them - I seem to switch when they act even a tiny bit crazy and I subconsciously assume they can’t handle my agenda. Been trying to find & explicitly state any agenda upfront. Breaks 4th wall.

In every single interaction in your life you bring an implicit ask. For some it's impress me, others it's confess to me, help me, compete with me, dominate me, etc. It's worth knowing what yours is and understanding how to use it.
