Thrilled that @BedaynJesse at @AP, once again, highlights households’ ongoing and growing need for financial assistance to pay energy bills. See below 👇🏻.
As climate change ratchets up temperatures across the U.S., nearly 30 million Americans are grappling with enduring perilous heat. To keep their air conditioning on, many cull their grocery lists or skip medical care.

Heat hurts, and it kills. We need to do more. I was happy to speak to @BedaynJesse with @AP highlighting the obstacles facing those that require financial assistance to pay their energy bills. 👇🏻.
As climate change fans hotter and longer heat waves, breaking record temperatures and leaving dozens dead, the poorest Americans suffer the hottest days with the fewest defenses.

Thank you to @rebleber for including me in this article that, importantly, highlights:. “Energy costs are rising, and the programs meant to help aren’t keeping the same pace.”.
Families are already “very stressed and stretched” by the highest natural gas prices we’ve seen since 2008

As we enter winter 🥶, this is a reminder that utility disconnection protections are rife with administrative burdens, or obstacles, that make it more difficult for vulnerable households to keep their power on as temperatures drop, heating demands rise, and related bills rise.
Vermont doesn't allow utilities to disconnect folks' power in winter👍🏻. as long as it's 10° or lower(!)🥶. The threshold rises to 32° for houses w/ older folks, as long as the account holder "furnishes advance written notice to the utility." As I'm sure everyone knows to do.😡.
