Jeanette and I are saddened by the passing of Frank Layden. He was key to the success of the Utah Jazz and a passionate advocate for our state. He once told me, “I could live anywhere, but I choose Utah. I love this state.” His legacy will live on. Rest in peace, Frank.

Jeanette and I express our love to the family of Elaine Hatch. Senator Hatch would not have accomplished all that he did without Elaine. She took care of the details, allowing her husband to bless Utah and our nation. Together, they are a dynamic, heavenly duo.

While on a trip to our Nations Capital, I made a short trip to Annapolis, MD to meet @GovWesMoore. An inspiring, gracious leader, and a 2014 recipient of @uvu honorary PhD. He is managing his state well. We agree on important issues facing both states and our country

Today, we join the world in mourning Pope Francis's passing. Jeanette and I will never forget meeting this gracious, kind, humble follower of Jesus Christ. A promoter of peace, our prayers go out to all who love him and follow his teachings and counsel.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of @ValKilmer who I thought was a great actor, one of my favorites. We met once in Utah, and we talked about his favorite movies and even his plan for a movie about Joseph Smith, the Mormon prophet. Prayers of comfort for his family and friends.

The Sundance Film Festival's departure is disheartening. I see them following the Outdoor Retailers Association, leaving for the incentive, realizing the mistake, and returning. There is more to the success envisioned by Robert Redford than the money.

As millions of U.S. citizens cast ballots on yesterday, I spoke to the Deseret News about election security and election results.

Elections are tough. They’re not easy on those who run; they’re not easy on those who vote. But as citizens of the best state in the best country in the world, we have an obligation to uphold their outcomes — no matter who wins.

I think the system to nominate our presidents probably needs a good, hard look and maybe a revamp, maybe a new way of looking at things. If that happens, I think the West and Utah can again become more prominent.
