I'm very excited and pleased to announce, that over the last few months now, I've been working in my new role, as Lead Level Designer at
@VOIDInteractive
! 🤘😀🥂
Me and
@Rhianne_man
have welcomed a new addition to our home this week and we'd like to share the news with you all 😊
Introducing PS5, arrived 30.06.23, weighing 3.9kg ❤️
Today, I'm proud to announce my new role as Level Designer - making a return to a studio that I cherish:
@RocksteadyGames
! 😀🎉
I'm SO excited to see everyone's lovely faces again, i've missed you all soo much and it has been tremendously heart-warming to be recieved so well ♥️
I'm currently putting together - what will eventually be - a Video Game Level Design course, comprising of a number of modules, covering a range of creative subjects, teaching technical and soft skills, including their application and best practice in the games industry... [1/3]
@Doctor_Cupcakes
Is it not possible anymore to let someone on the internet have their opinions, without torching anyone and everyone connected to them?
If you don't like his opinions, you can still enjoy the game, made by hundreds of other devs.
I'm SO excited to announce that I'm an Environment Artist working on
#SuicideSquadGame
at
@RocksteadyGames
! and have been for the last few years 😊
Let's jump right into it!!!!!!!!!!
After 17 months working with the talented game developers at
@RocksteadyGames
, i'm delighted to announce i've been PROMOTED to an intermediate level ENVIRONMENT ARTIST! 🎉
Thank you to everyone on the team for their support and trust 😀
Here's to the future at Rocksteady!
Looking to learn more on the differences in
#EnvironmentArt
&
#LevelDesign
within the video games industry?🤔
I got you covered! 😀

So here is my big, exciting career update.
As of today, I'll be working as a Level Designer at
@nDreamsVR
😀
It's my first day and i've already received a very warm welcome from the team 😄
A lot of us poured our hearts and souls into the development of this game for many, many years. I hope that players enjoy playing this Closed Aloha Tech Test this weekend, just as much as I enjoyed helping to make it 🤟
Invites for the
#SuicideSquadGame
Closed Alpha Tech Test are officially on their way. Check your inbox to see if you've got a spot! You can invite up to three friends to join. Test runs from Nov 30, 6 am PST to Dec 3, 11:59 pm PST.
FINALLY, I can publicly announce that I am currently and have been since July, a Junior Environment Artist working at
@RocksteadyGames
; a phenomenal studio, surrounded by the most talented people in the games industry.
I'm sooo happy this is awesome!!!! :D :D :D
Saw a video online comparing the graphical fidelity of two video games released 9 years apart:
1. A single-player game, set entirely at Night
2. A multiplayer game, with a dynamic weather system and a real time day/night cycle
It is particularly unfair to make this comparison.
I'm 3 weeks into my new role at a new studio (so take this with a pinch of salt) but I can honestly say that I feel the most satisfaction in my day-to-day now, than I have in quite some time
I feel i've found the exact position that is right for me and i'm immensely grateful ☺️
Come and work with me in a kickass Level Design team, on an awesome game, with a brilliant studio!!! 😃
@RocksteadyGames
are hiring for a
👏 Junior Level Designer 👏
SO if you're interested, please check out the job posting here:
#LevelDesign
Here's my submission for a
#CGMA
#leveldesign
assignment. Based on the map layouts of Vermintide 2, I authored an action game where you move through the wartorn streets of a mountain town ransacked by goblins, to get to the top and halt the attack.

I proposed to my soul mate this weekend; I count my blessings every day I wake up to this woman's smile, and i'll have a smile stapled to my face for a very long time, because she said 'Yes' 💍❤️
Happy Anniversary
@Rhianne_man
Okay so i'm not allowed to say where yet, but I can say I am now a Junior Environment Artist :D
Which means, I HAVE A JOB! :D :D :D
I can't wait to share more!
So today was my last day at
@RocksteadyGames
It's been almost 2 ½ years, working with a team of the most talented, hard working, kind and supportive people you'll ever meet!
It's been my pleasure and a privilege to have such an opportunity ♥️
Thank you all for everything! 😊
Today marks 5 years together with the most wonderful, caring, supportive and beautiful person i've ever known,
@Rhianne_man
♥️♥️♥️
From Uni, to long distance, to living together; 5 years later and we're still going strong. I'm a very lucky man 😀
Happy Anniversary! 🥂
It is my last week at Rocksteady Ltd this week. Almost 2 1/2 years since I started there as a Junior; i've grown and learned so much since.
The support from the team has been incredible, I'm gonna miss everyone working there! ♥️
That's a wrap! 👋🥹
Thank you to all the amazing folks at
@RocksteadyGames
for the last 5 years ❤️
I've many, many fond memories to take away with me thanks to each and every one of you - and for that, I will always be grateful.
Until next time! 🖖
Congratulations to all my dear friends at
@RocksteadyGames
on the release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. After 5 years working on the game, it's finally out there!
After months of reflecting, thought, deliberation and discussion, i've reached the conclusion: I want to continue my career going forward in video games development not as an Environment Artist (as typically defined*) but as a Level Designer.
With today starts my last week at
@RocksteadyGames
🥲
I've been a part of this team for the last 5 years, having worked with some of the best talent in the games industry, including many supportive, tremendous people, that I'm lucky to call my friends💟
For new followers here; hello, welcome! 😀
I'm Sean, a Level Designer (prev. an Environment Artist) working in video games for 4+ years.
I tweet about Games, Art, D&D, MMA, provide advice and share personal work ♥️🎮
I also write Blogs on my website at:
To increase the number of women in the games industry, we need to make sure that young women know that it can be a career path for them.
This starts with encouragement in schools, where other adults discourage such a career move. Video Games are for everyone! :D
#WomensDay
Earlier this month, I announced my very difficult decision, to leave
@RocksteadyGames
where I have been working as an Env Artist on the team; a team that I love and respect very dearly. I'm gonna miss you all! ❤️💙💚
Here is my heartfelt leaving message to the team 💙♥️💚
@jasonschreier
For the record, Environment Artists working in games can earn close to double their salary working in visualisation, in industries like architecture and even promotion. I know, because i've worked in all three.
GOOD NEWS! Me &
@Rhianne_man
will moving back to London soon! ☺️ (hopefully before xmas)
I cant begin to explain how excited we are, or how much we've been through to get here. But finally after 2 years of living seperately, long distance etc, we'll have our own flat, together!
Thank you so much Shane! 😀
I had a lot of fun putting this scene together; I was strapped for time this week, and so I only had a few hours to put this level together, but i'm pretty happy with the result 😊
For those here who know me, you'll know that I chose to leave this studio last year, where I worked for years as an Environment Artist, leaving to pursue a career as a Level Designer.
So, why did I leave? 👀
and why did I return? 👀
As some may or may not know, today is my last day at
@nDreamsVR
.
I want to thank the many of you that have been so sincere and welcoming during my time; you have certainly enriched my experience at the studio😊
Stay in touch; look after yourselves and one another 🫂
I'm fracking excited that we're able to finally show off what we've been working on here at
@ndreams
🥳
I'm working as a Level Designer on the new game

Here are just a few screenshots of my custom UE4 D&D Template for Curse of Strahd Encounters set in the Svalich Woods, i'll follow up with a breakdown of this whole space soon enough and show it is used in-game.
I have now finished my degree and am now looking for full time work as a Junior Environment Artist in the UK. See my latest 3D UE4 Environment as well as my full portfolio on my Artstation website:

I'm coming up on my 2 year work anniversary starting at
@RocksteadyGames
!
Getting that call changed my life, and i'm forever thankful for the opportunity.
I'm also very lucky to be working alongside a studio full of tremendous and talented folks here (and I miss seeing you all)
Hi folks, i'm Sean (pron. shaw-n), I'm a Level Designer from the UK currently at
@RocksteadyGames
👋
I've been in the Games Industry for about 6+ years, in Design and Env. Art.
I mentor aspiring designers, lecture at Uni's and present at public events 🙂
#WhatAGameDevLooksLike
It's just as important for level designers to analyse and study architecture when creating game spaces, as it is for environment artists who work on them. There's an internal logic we understand about architecture; once design breaks that logic, spaces feel uncanny and strange.
This time last year, me and
@Rhianne_man
had our 'stay-cation' in London; we took one week away from work, that we spent together doing whatever we liked in the big city, playing board-games (like 40k Kill Team) and going to restaurants, watching TV indoors.
Ohhhh you're all gonna ❤️ THIS!
I'm so proud of this team, truly phenomenal
@RocksteadyGames
!! I'm so lucky I get to design & work on this cool AF game, every day!! 😊🎉
I've posted a WIP of my FMP on Artstation.
There's 5/6 weeks until the deadline, with plenty work left to do. but please check it out and provide some feedback if you can as I'd like to make this look as good as it can be

17 vs now (26)
I was a social butterfly, always out w/ friends, the scene kid, always trying to act cool; truly just a kid lost about life - but just trying to enjoy it.
Now, I've discovered who I am, found the perfect girl and the career path right for me - enjoying every day.
UPDATE: I've tested positive for covid.
Having recieved two negative test results on the Monday and Tuesday, I assumed it was vaccine side effects. Sadly not.
Seems I'm bed-bound for the foreseeable future.
I'm a little scared, but finding humour wherever I can is helping.
For those wondering what happened to me? I'm taking a break from social media - especially Twitter.
The constant online negativity, echoe chambers and doom scrolling has its impacts.
Now after nearly two months away, i'm enjoying a peace of mind like a breath of fresh air.
Here is my submission for this weeks
#CGMA
assignment; this time, exploring a series of Roman Ruins. In this level, we look at the visual articulation between on screen elements, how elements work together to frame a view and give shape to a space etc
#Blocktober
I'm finding it increasingly difficult to share here, i'll be very honest everyone.
Work life balance is out the windee and i'm struggling with the overbearing pressures of some pretty big, life changing decisions that i've made recently - or will have to make shortly.
Thank you everyone for your support and well wishes this week, you guys are the best! <3
I'm feeling much much better now thankfully :)
While I still have less energy in the day and my taste is still gone, my appetite is returning slowly and all other symptoms have gone :D
Whether you've recently found yourself in games or you're an industry veteran, dunking on small indie teams simply for clout and likes, really doesn't do you any good in my books
Yo Game Dev Twitter!
Has anyone got any recommendations for more-advanced level design tutorials or even online mentor-ship programmes?
As I'm looking to learn!
This week I start my own small scale mentoring programme for Environment Art🎮🤟
Planning so far means putting every lesson i've learned over the years down on paper. All of this stuff I'll surely take with me to Uni talks and presentations too, as I feel i've got a lot to share.
Here's a cheers 🍺 to the worst kept secret in the UK gaming industry :P
I mean, everyone knew that Playground were working on a Fable game didn't they? ☺️ haha
Your story’s not over. Hope you’ve got a pen on you, preferably one made out of a feather.
#Fable
is coming exclusive to the Xbox Series X and Windows 10 PCs.

"Brighton, you've been kind!"
This year was both my first time at Develop Conference and in Brighton city.
I've ❤️ it!
Thank you to everyone that I've met this week, who has made these last few days so memorable and to
@developconf
thank you for running a great event! 🖖
@tha_rami
The account gave fair criticism, he's a big community member, a fan of the game, he was respectful, polite with his comments and then the devs attacked him by bringing gender into it. I'm sorry but there's a BIG difference here and there are better ways to treat your fans.
Thank you to everyone online for sharing your positivity, I feel like I've sat on this secret for so long and it's such a wonderful feeling to see everyone freaking out about it 🤩💕
From the bottom of my heart, thank you! <3
This might sound odd, but I'm purposefully not going to play my day one copy of
#Cyberpunk2077
until I've completed all of my CGMA coursework and my to-do list for the year.
Only then - as a reward to myself - I'll sit down to play the game I've been anticipating for years :D
This week I'm celebrating 4 years working at
@RocksteadyGames
Such an incredible journey - from Art to Design - such a phenomenal team, a supportive studio and I cannot wait for you all to play our game!
I wake up every morning excited to start my day!
Thank you Rocksteady!💟
Across my career i've had the pleasure to work for many great leaders, who are great communicators, supportive and inspiring.
I've also been unlucky one or two times, where I've worked under some rather terrible people.
What qualities do you look for in your Leads/Directors?
Projects aside, over time, you begin to realise that it's the people that make a "dream company", w/ talented colleagues who are a pleasure to work with, with employers that invest in their employees, and with people whose morals closely align with your own 🙂
Today was our last D&D session of the year before we pause for a 2 month long hiatus.
So we finished the show with a bang!
This time, they fought a CR 17 Gargantuan Sea Serpent in the marsh of the Flooded Forest.
I use UE4 to create my encounters (1/5) ...
My biological father had a lot of issues and so left the family when I was young.
Years later this man - my step-dad - stepped up.
Happy Father's Day Ross, here's to one of the best men I know.
The lesson here is, this industry is filled with these strange journeys and it's never too late to start yours!
I'm excited for the future going forward; this was my journey, and for where I've ended up, I wouldn't have it any other way 🙂
I can honestly say that i'm a very happy man right now; I have my dream job working for a phenomenal studio, I've been warmly welcomed into the Rocksteady family by staff, and i've made some incredible friends already at the studio.
Life is going well for me right now :)
My new D&D character is a Warforged Cleric of Light, dubbed Candlepin! ☺️🎲
A voiceless, 4ft clockwork automoton with a child-like mind, using the magic of its radiant soul to help those in need. When scared, he reverts to his destructive programming as a machine of war!
I do not blame gamers for not quite understanding all or certain technical details of game development, or the cost/benefit analysis of a single player game vs a multiplayer game, but there is a HUGE difference regarding performance.
It's not as simple as "Make it multiplayer!"
I'll be running an open, Level Design competition for
#GamesCareersWeek
, w/
@nDreamsVR
😀
Entries open to anyone and everyone, looking to work in games 🎮
There's even some prizes for the winners too! 🎁

I am now looking for full time work as a Junior Environment Artist in UK, to start as early as May 2018
If you can retweet this or reply with any info to help me, i'd really appreciate it :D
3D Environment Artist with 18 months of work experience
This is a HUGE body of work, and one that I am pouring a lot of my time, knowledge and learned experience into, to help others who want to level up and learn.
I intend to release this when it's ready, ideally later this year, so stay tuned! 🖖 [3/3]
This is why I love doing talks to students and at conventions, online podcasts etc bc educating people about how the sauce is made, not only helps to teach, but also helps to align expectations.
After years of study I have just learned that I been awarded a First Class Degree Hons for my Games Art (BA) course at De Montfort University; I will be graduating in 3 weeks time!
I'm very happy with the result :D
I don't see many of my game dev friends using this app at all anymore, my following is now largely adverts 😭
everyone seems to have split off into these other social media platforms, but I don't know if I've the energy or attention span to start again elsewhere 🫠
