Why would GCU want make a move? Because it wanted to be surrounded by better Men's basketball programs. Last seasons Ken Pom Avg. Ranking (not including GCU):.WAC: 220.Next years MW: 121.Future MW in 2026: 169. Bigger crowds, better venues, and better players.

And the statements continue to roll in from the five schools who decided to leave the MW and give up their vote, while wanting to control the conference.

And this is not an opinion on Mark, who has been on the nose across the board on the MW situation. Fantastic writer and again has been spot on, but merely an opinion on those schools leaving. We saw this sort of situation play out with B1G & PAC 12.

An unfortunate perspective on the move. While obviously plenty of drama amidst the Pac 12/MW settlement, and understandably so, schools opting to leave and then wanting to still control that conference till the last moment is confounding. Wants the cake and to eat it too!.
The Mountain West, despite previously indicating it wouldn't, allows Grand Canyon to join the conference a year early in 2025-26 without the consent of SDSU and the four other departing schools.
