I don't use this platform much anymore, but I'm happy to share our work on sexual selection and the genomics of speciation in barn swallows. Thanks for reading and sharing, if of interest! https://t.co/TMALb9NsMu

Despite the well-known effects of sexual selection on phenotypes, links between this evolutionary process and reproductive isolation, genomic divergence, and speciation have been difficult to...

A story of transposons, innate immunity, and how human (and primates) possess an endogenous system to tune interferon response through the relative expression level of a signaling receptor and its alternatively spliced decoy.
I’m excited to share our latest study led by @GiuliaPasquesi out today in @CellPressNews , uncovering a new way transposons have been repurposed for human interferon signaling! Read on for a thread on cryptic splice variants, decoy receptors, and viruses (1/N) 👇🧵

He was the worst President in history. And when he got voted out, he tried to stage a coup. Then he stole national secrets and sold the ones he didn't store in the bathroom. He was convicted of fraud, found liable of sexual assault and convicted of 34 felonies. He is half a

💥Excited to unleash ENCOTE: Encyclopedia of Transposable Elements with cis-regulatory activity in the human genome! Collab w @twang5 for #ENCODE led by🔥trio Alan Du, Jason Chobirko & @XiaoyuZhuo TEs = 25% of all cCREs = 200,000+ elements!! Deep dive! 1/n

Transposable elements (TEs) make up about half of the human genome and many have the biochemical hallmarks of tissue- or cell type-specific cis -regulatory elements. While some TEs have been rigoro...

💥Our new preprint! Transposon ADDICTION in development! Gag proteins of endogenous retroviruses are required for zebrafish development Study led heroically by @sylviaandbu & @JN_Wells This work has transformed my view of transposons, no less! 🧵1/n https://t.co/d1yNgFbBSb

Transposable elements (TEs) make up the bulk of eukaryotic genomes and examples abound of TE-derived sequences repurposed for organismal function. The process by which TEs become coopted remains...

Proud to share the first neuronal model of the disease we discovered in 2017! Here we describe that #YY1 mutations affect corticogenesis in a cell-type specific fashion, and in #organoids, we observed a phenotype that recapitulates clinical features!
excited to share our latest work on the mechanisms of Gabriele-de Vries Syndrome #GADEVS a #neurodevelopmental condition we first described in 2017 https://t.co/clWGxtDl5z

Preprint alert! Do you like retrotransposons 🧬? Do you like squamates 🦎🐍? Do you like TEs/retrotransposons in squamates? @SimoneGable studied CR1 retrotransposons across ~350 amniote genomes, revealing dynamic patterns of genome evolution in reptiles! https://t.co/9rykFzPS5p

Transposable elements (TEs) are repetitive DNA sequences which create mutations and generate genetic diversity across the tree of life. In amniotic vertebrates, TEs have been mainly studied in...

Ops! TEs did it again!!! (and again and again). This time, it's an endogenous thermostat of primate inflammatory and innate immune response.
Excited to share our latest preprint, led by @GiuliaPasquesi , on transposons and interferon signaling! 👇 for a 🧵 on cryptic splice variants, decoy receptors, and viruses (1/N)

This was a fun collaboration with @blairperry614 @darencard @GiuliaPasquesi Aundrea Westfall, Steve Mackessy, and Todd Castoe. It felt a little like 'getting the band back together', since Blair, Daren, Giulia, and I were once all grad students in the Castoe Lab together.
