The fact that a political party is willing to make completely fake AI videos and share them on official channels, with a small watermark, is really a remarkable place to be. A universe away from where we were just a year ago, when videos like this would have been unthinkable.

This is not a real video. There is instead a small "AI Generated" disclaimer in the corner. It is a real quote to @PunchbowlNews. But it wasn't said on camera like this. New boundaries being pushed here —>

I'm honored to have the endorsement of President @BarackObama. He knows how high the stakes are on November 4th — and he knows that every vote counts.

And I suspect some of them will, because the leaks we’ve seen out of the DoD are distinct from other agencies and fueled by different motives. Many of these people have been willing to die for their country, that’s a mentality engrained in someone. 9/9

Hegseth isn’t just turning off reporter access, he’s trying to make it harder on these military officials who have shown a willingness to defy the White House. He wants to make it easier to detect them if they keep going. 8/x

Reporters simply have less face to face contact with high level people at other agencies. They don’t see them in the hallways. They can’t walk into their offices. The pentagon is just a different reporting terrain. 7/x

But also the Pentagon as a building made leaking easier. DoD officials could talk face to face with reporters with little to no disruption of their schedule. And that made leaks very hard to detect. Information shared at the pentagon Best Buy is harder to root out. 6/x

There are also a lot of socioeconomic mobility in the military. Yes, there are wealthy generals. But many come from more humble roots. They got where they are via hard work. And so they’re leaking not out of partisan motivation. 5/x

And the military is by far the least partisan of the government agencies. They are trained to be nonpartisan. And don’t have the same socioeconomic make up of government agencies, so they aren’t full of populations that historically trend left. 4/x

Military leaders think in terms of long horizon and short horizon. And they clearly felt making public things like a secret signal channel and Russian back channeling was important. They leaked constantly. 3/x

Unlike any other branch of government, through Trump’s first and now second terms, the Pentagon has been a source of some the most revelatory leaks. I suspect that’s because military officials are trained to think about the long term and know info is as important as weapons 2/x

Here’s an important component of the Pentagon running the press out of the building that I think is being missed by a lot of people: the press is amazing, but this is really targeted high level Pentagon officials. Why, you ask. Because they leaked the most embarrassing info. 1/x

Dear national media: Instead of using photos of LBJ signing the Voting Rights Act, use this one of its bi-partisan reauthorization. It does more to show how far we’ve regressed in a few short years.

Last week, I was in Europe and looking at the huge arches in the circles and said, “I’m shocked Trump hasn’t tried to build one in DC yet.” Apparently I’m to blame for imagining this into existing.

I’m in Spain and trying to explain the government shutdown to Europeans is fun. “So yes, they closed all of our museums because they didn’t pay for them but yes of course we have the money. Yes that’s right the military is still open.”

For the record, I love these lids that stay attached, as a beverage consumer. And since I know we’ve already had a freak out about them, I’m filing them under nice things we can’t have.

Ever seen a garbage worker on the back of a truck and thought, “that doesn’t feel safe”? In Spain, they wear helmets.

Can confirm Spain has a military. Also military parades that aren’t politically decisive are kinda cool.

Trump wanted to give King Charles one of Ike's swords. The Eisenhower presidential library said it could not provide one because it is government property and illegal to give away. Now the library director has been fired. @jennyschuessler @minhokimdh

The departure of Todd Arrington, who led the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum, came after the administration sought a sword from its collection as a gift for King Charles.
