I’ve seen some remarkable cricket moments in my life but that is the best I’ve seen in over 50 years.
@benstokes38
saved the Ashes and gave a magical inspirational innings. Even better than his World Cup performance.
Well done
@ECB_cricket
Well done, terrific batting Joe Root and Joe Denly, gave us back some pride & just a sniff of a chance of victory. Thank you. Still difficult to win but not impossible, records are meant to be broken. Good luck
@ECB_cricket
... 2/2 I have supported our Club for 55 years & I was delighted to be a guest at the POTY Awards but I won’t lie about this year’s football. I have loved
@ManUtd
through good and bad times, and will continue to but I don’t look at everything through red coloured spectacles!
When MUTV requested an interview at the Player of the Year Awards I don’t believe my answers were untrue or unfair. The newspaper headlines are at it again making out I slagged people off. Please listen to the whole interview & not just the comments in certain newspapers... 1/2
1/2 I would like to thank
@bbctms
@BBCSport
for a wonderful 14 years. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and just love cricket with a passion. I also wish to thank all those that have said how much they have enjoyed my commentary and for those that haven’t- too bad.
Brilliant tweet
@Jemima_Khan
I agree. Great captain, great cricketer, great man I hope he does well. Please send him my congratulations and best wishes.
22 years later, after humiliations, hurdles and sacrifices, my sons’ father is Pakistan’s next PM. It’s an incredible lesson in tenacity, belief & refusal to accept defeat. The challenge now is to remember why he entered politics in the 1st place. Congratulations
@ImranKhanPTI
4/4 Hopefully I may still have some input
@bbctms
if that tall lanky ex Leicestershire medium pace bowler needs an honest appraisal or wants to take the mickey out of me maybe he will give me a call while on air To everyone out there Be sensible Stay alive Your life is precious.
Well played
@englandcricket
You were absolutely fantastic! At one stage it was NZ’s until
@benstokes38
&
@josbuttler
showed great character & fighting spirit. Loved watching every ball & I’m glad you pulled it around as your game over the last few deserves recognition, congrats!
Happy 40th Birthday
@KP24
one of the best innings I ever saw by anybody was you in Mumbai, 2nd Test v India in 2012. 186 on a big turning pitch and after that
@englandcricket
won easily. Magic.
Had my first COVID-19 vaccine today in Wetherby. It was all superbly organised and the NHS staff were excellent. Thank you to them all and a very merry Christmas 🎄
Thrilled for Alastair Cook to end on such a high... I was there for his first Test Century in Napur and there today for his last. Great cricketer, he will be missed.
There is nothing in the rules that says what type of pitch should be prepared. We had first choice of the surface and they were better than us. Simple.
I would give essential workers a pay rise and put up the highest rate of tax by 1% or 2% for 2years and then re access. We higher earners can afford it more readily and without these essential workers the whole fabric of society falls down.
2/5 my contract with BBC finished end of last summer. I would loved to continue but need to be realistic & honest with myself. Covid -19 has made the decision for both of us.
Had my second check up today and everything is going well. Thank you to everyone for your words of support, cards and well wishes... as you can see there’s been a fair few!
3/5 Recently I had a quadruple heart by-pass and at 79 am the wrong age to be commentating in a bio secure area trapped all day in confined spaces with the same people- even if some of those commentators I regard as friends and others I admire.
I am who I am, I’ve made mistakes and I do try to learn from them despite what people might say. But bringing up my past and trying to make out I harp on about it simply isn’t true and it’s a cheap shot to make an article off the back of degrading me.
Favourite cricketers team to play in. Me, Sunil Gavaskar Graham Gooch OBE, DL Sir Clive Lloyd CBE. AO. , David Steele,
@ImranKhanPTI
(cpt), Baron
@BeefyBotham
Kt. OBE , David Bairstow (wkt), Graham Stevenson, FS Trueman OBE,
@Redsiddy
, Lance Gibbs .
It also shows us
@bhogleharsha
that Dhoni is wrong. If captains are allowed to come on the field and challenge umpire decisions it would be farcical, we would never finish a match! Whatever type of cricket, kids in the park, league or 1st class.
#CricbuzzLIVE
The end of an era... 14 wonderful and enjoyable years working for
@Channel5Sport
under the watchful gaze of
@DianaKeen4
who has always looked after me... and kept us all in check!
Birthday lunch today at
@alicehawthorn_
was excellent, top notch and I’ve already booked to go again. Thank you all for the well wishes and cards and especially
@RachaelBoycott
for my sparkler!
What a load of bollocks, you know nothing, I faced Lillee/Thompson and all the West Indies quicks at their best 77, 79,80 and 81. Get your facts straight, look it up.
@telecricket
@GeoffreyBoycott
This is the Boycott who turned his back on England from 74-77, refused to play under Tony Greig, and thus avoided meeting Lillee/Thomson & Holding/Roberts at their finest. Stones and glasshouses come to mind.
And finally... thank you to all who have seen this article for what it is. A cheap shot at someone just trying to do their job. Find some new subject matter Engel and forget about that ‘bond’ we have.
Some people on twitter think because no one can identify their real name or
address they can be nasty or rude and abuse me. I will answer any sensible or pertinent tweet on cricket as best I can but please if you just want to be nasty or don’t like me then don’t bother.
Home after my first Test Match back post op. I loved being back at work and
@Southampton_HH
took fantastic care of me, and it's a lovely hotel. Special mention to Gary who was my driver each day. Now to rest up ready for the Oval
@KiaOvalEvents
#ENGvIND
61 years ago today was a very special day for me. 21 and wearing glasses I played my first 1st class match for
@YorkshireCCC
v Pakistan at Bradford on a spicy pitch. Scored 4 & 4, there was a lot of room for improvement!
@MichaelVaughan
Thank you my friend. Thoroughly enjoyed our time working together and your wonderful infectious enthusiasm for cricket. However what I would have loved the most would have been able to bat under you as my Captain for
@englandcricket
.You were brilliant.
Two great batsmen
@jacqueskallis75
and
@KP24
now two very fine golfers... KP chipped in from 25 yards in front of my house
@Pearl_Valley
for a birdie on the 16th hole!
Off to see
@MichaelVaughan
and family for crayfish, wonderful, looking forward to it. Happy Christmas to everyone. We all need a pick me up with
@englandcricket
to play well in Melbourne.
Early birthday present 😂
Soon to be 80 my state pension is to increase by 25pence a week!! Which gormless idiot thought that one up. How’s it going to help ? Can’t even buy a packet of chewing gum for that.
How does
@ECB_cricket
go from good in Sri Lanka to poor in West Indies??? Intelligent lateral movement by Keymar Roach and Jason Holder, absolutely lovely bowling. But the England batting couldn’t handle it, embarrassing.
Rain had ruined all the net pitches. I found this bit of concrete on wasteland where sheep were grazing. Great preparation to face Holding, Roberts Garner & Croft in 1981 !!
@jbairstow21
England team preparations have improved somewhat over the years.
David Bairstow and Geoffrey Boycott had to make do with this DIY wicket on England’s 1981 tour to the Caribbean.
2/2 ...I am there to give an objective and insightful view on the
Cricket. My credibility is at stake and I am not there to be biased and just say nice things about England. I give my honest view and in this Test Match we/England fell short.
Well played
@englandcricket
You not only brought your ‘A’ game - you were ‘A’ plus.
Absolutely Magnificent. You are the best team so GO win it now.
#CWC19
@DGoughie
was born a ⭐️ wonderful bowler, big heart & dazzling smile with a special rare gift of inspiring &lifting his teammates. Recognition is overdue but couldn’t happen to a more worthy cricketer & good guy. Congratulations on your MBE xxx
I faced Lillee in 1970 & 71, 1972 - 3 Test in Eng 79/80 - 3 Tests in Aus + 1 day series 82 - 6 Tests in Eng faced Thommo 1977 - 2 Tests in Eng 79 - 1 Test & 1 dayers. dislike me for whatever personal reasons that’s fine, but stop lying/insinuating untruths not backed up by facts
Jones is a cart horse, too slow and lost the FA Cup Final last season & always injured, Smalling is not good enough, Lindeloff is out of his depth, if I could see that last season why are they still
@ManUtd
centre backs? Madness! I could defend better with my pads on than them.
100th First Class Hundred
#OnThisDay
in 1977,
@GeoffreyBoycott
became the First batsman to score his 100th First Class Hundred in a Test Match.
He achieved this milestone at his home ground, Headingley, Leeds (v AUS)

How can
@YorkshireCCC
think appointing a law firm the current chair used to work for will be seen as Independent!!
It’s a sham and our Chairman & CEO should be embarrassed. This is a serious accusation & the club should be not only above reproach but seen to be. above reproach.
While encouraged by the appointment of a well regarded law firm to lead the investigation at Yorkshire, I note the club chair used to work there. Still think it would have made sense to ask the
@NatAsianCC
to lead this review.
Can't sleep and Eng vs Sri Lanka
@bbctms
is keeping me company.
Great commentary as always, but every time I listen I can't help but think of what a bunch of muppets the
@BBC
were for dropping
@GeoffreyBoycott
. The man is cricketing royalty. TMS misses that bit of bite
