“First, heal thy team – the ergonomics imperative when the OR hurts and burns out” Check out commentary by @HalletJulie @DrFadiTO on work from @chrouserMD relating ergonomic hazards and pain in OR with burnout: ergonomics is not a luxury, it’s a necessity for staff and patient

🔑 Don’t become a “keyhole #surgeon.” Not just physically—but mentally. In this episode with Dr. @GeetaLalMD, we talk about how stepping away from the #OR, even briefly, can reset more than your #muscles. 🎧 Listen on The Intentional Surgeon #Podcast: 🔗 https://t.co/UswwvSNpPB

Parathyroid cancer is very rare—seen in less than 1% of people with high calcium and PTH levels. But when it does occur, it often presents with: 🔹 Very high calcium (often >14 mg/dL) 🔹 Extremely elevated PTH 🔹 A large parathyroid tumor #CheckYourCalcium #PAM2025

You Don’t Need to “Watch and Wait” Forever Tired of watching your high calcium levels and hoping it gets better? Parathyroid surgery is the only cure for primary hyperparathyroidism—and it can be life-changing. @AAES surgeon finder can help. https://t.co/KiikAKLCqr

What’s IOPTH and why does it matter? During parathyroid surgery, most expert surgeons measure intraoperative PTH (IOPTH) levels to confirm the overactive gland was removed. This works because PTH drops SO quickly. A drop of >50% at 10 min usually means you’re cured. #PAM2025

Work-related MSK injuries among surgeons and other OR personnel is a growing epidemic. Time we paid attention to it @SocSurgErgo @SurgErgonomics
Few people understand the ramifications of a surgeon’s surgical life expectancy. We don’t start working until our 30s. And most of us can’t operate much past 65. There are a lot of fabulous surgeons here on X—many still early in their careers. I’m firmly mid-career anymore.

Thank you for the invitation and kind words! @SurgErgonomics @SocSurgErgo
Spectacular @UofUSurgery Grand Rounds this morning given by visiting professor Dr. @GeetaLalMD @UIowa_Surgery on a critical topic. Work-related injuries as a result of poor ergonomics are sadly common, with some studies citing rates as high as 64% of practicing surgeons
