Garnetbank has gone GOLD!
Following a successful accreditation visit from
@UNICEF_uk
,we are delighted that our 10 year journey as a rights respecting school has been awarded Gold level!
Congratulations Rights club, Mrs Simpson & Team Garnetbank! 🥳🥳🥳
Did you know we have no bells this year?We have added teaching clocks all round the school - inside and out. So many benefits: No more noisy bell (jumping when it rings) and everybody has to read/learn to tell the time. School is a nicer place to be!

Thinking of our families who live near the fire. It must have been a scary night for some. We'll be giving out hugs on Monday morning and will be there for a chat if anyone needs it. 2 major fires locally recently is a lot for little people (and big ones too). 💜
This p7 boy has been with us just a few weeks. He translates for us for our Ukranian families. He is a ray of sunshine with jokes and hilarious anecdotes. Today he helped all day for our World harvest and smiled all day. We are so glad to welcome him to team Garbetbank! 🤝 💛💙
So so soooo proud of these wee activitists today down at George Square.Reminding all the grown ups of their responsibilities to act now to protect the planet.Look how much they mean these words!

P3/2 had a maths disaster when Mrs Hearn accidentally (on purpose) dropped a big tray of cubes! First they estimated how many in the big pile. Then they counted in 10s and 100s to work out the final HUGE number! Great team work and counting everyone.

We wondered how closing Renfrew Street & reclaiming it from cars for children would go.Some children tried a bike for the very first time, some built a cardboard city, some made hand art on the street. ALL had fun! Good for the planet, body and mind.

As the huge march went along Sauchiehall Street, our children joined in from school to the cheers of the crowds. We discussed at assembly after. The children were so pleased to see how many people care. One wee girl said 'I think maybe things are going to change!'

Our amazing support team & Kenny met today about our playground. After trialling 'mixed play' times on Fridays and by popular request from the children, we agreed to have mixed play at lunch every day! Big ones & wee ones learning and playing together. 🏃🕺💃🏃🕺💃👫👬👭👫😎

SCHOOL OPEN MONDAY
Have been at the site with director of education. The road will be diverted similar to when we had the recent road works. Lots of roads closed though so best on foot if possible. We will see all our families tomorrow!
Thank you to

This lovely lady will be moving into p7 nearer her home soon. An absolute role model of Garnetbank values. We will all miss her kindness, positive attitude and fantastic ideas. Once a member of team Garnetbank... ALWAYS a member of team Garnetbank!
During COP 27, every class has learned about living more sustainably and doing something where we can. Every class has also been litter picking. The finale was today, when the whole school marched and sang for change.

Any small donations of pennies towards Violet's garden welcome thanks (to school office). We have plans for seating, small world play, mud kitchen, sand pit, theatre and memorial bench. We found clematis called 'etoille violette' which are perfect!
Wonderful to see smiling children at school today.(Children are being kept in bubbles of two classes at breaks and lunch times, being able to play freely in their groups.) Brilliant to see them together again. Well done to all of team Garnetbank for making it happen! ⭐⭐⭐
Our amazing Garnetbank Green group made posies for our children, collected nasturtium seeds and provided bags of edible greens! Parent power! Thank you all!
It's always hard to choose one child as the winner of the Violet Star Award, as so many of our children embody the school values & promote community spirit. This year's winner is a super star and very deserving, we are so proud of you for being such a role model.
