The cancellation of this vital piece of infrastructure is a terrible shame and people should reach out to their TDs and the Minister for Transport to call for funding to be reinstated. 4/4

It was going to be the beginning and end of a jewel in the crown of the city and region for workers, students, children and for tourists. This was not just to be a valuable commuting route but a welcome recreational amenity in a city crying out for good outdoor space. 3/4

We were disappointed to find out that the NTA has withdrawn funding for a bridge which was to safely & seamlessly connect the City with: - The University of Galway - The Hospital - Newcastle - Dangan - Moycullen - The rest of Conamara 2/4

Delighted to have got a chance to meet the @WestOnTrackIRL and @GLUASLightRail campaigns this evening. We're all working to transform how we get around Galway, Connacht and the whole island. Some nice light reading for us on the bus home! 😄

@SeanCanney @Galwaybayfmnews @GalwayAdvert @CTribune In addition, capacity must be improved between Athenry and Galway Ceannt. Otherwise there will simply be no space for trains to/from Mayo into the city.

@SeanCanney However, this must come with double tracking, line speed upgrades, and partial electrification. Otherwise we will end up in a similar situation to our Limerick service, packed to the gills and fighting for seats. @Galwaybayfmnews @GalwayAdvert @CTribune

GALWAY TO MAYO RAIL LINK FUNDED Some good news for Galway's railway. The Minister of State for Transport @SeanCanney announced that funding for the reopening of the Athenry <-> Claremorris railway will be included in the National Development Plan. https://t.co/oI7qJg8kR8

The announcement that the Western Rail Corridor line from Athenry to Claremorris will be reopened has been hailed as a historic day for the West.

Good news out of the pre-budget discussions. Fares will not be rising this year. We must continue to invest in Public Transport, particularly in Galway, to make up for the historical lack of ambition which has left our city totally choked with traffic.
