I'm so grateful that my first economics education is with @modernmoneylab, which tells you precisely what traditional economics gets wrong (along with their motivations for doing so), and instead teaches the economics of the real world. Highly recommend

Never, ever call it taxpayers' money. Words matter. And it isn't taxpayers' money. It is public money.

Why governments run deficits—to help the private sector net save. This week I interviewed MMT economist @StevenHailAus on everything we get wrong about money—and how to finance a renewable economy. Listen to the full episode now: https://t.co/JTSdWcVOrZ

As we begin our 3rd year as Modern Money Lab, I would like to thank publicly @MichalakisCon, without whose generosity we could never have developed the economics of sustainability (MMT) courses. A very expensive process, largely funded by one person. https://t.co/3PEt3NFnsm

Out of control bushfire burning in Pilliga Forest towards homes and properties. Approx 18km south of Narrabri and 28km west of Boggabri. The fire has gone through Santos' gas fields. Local community warned government that this would happen - map at https://t.co/EIazLvxV0K...

BREAKING: Supreme Court strikes down tough anti-protest laws Bloody brilliant result which invalidates some of the most egregious parts of NSW’s laws So proud of @EDOLawyers clients Helen and Dom fighting for constitutional freedoms of all Australians https://t.co/LBUo2CEJh2

The laws criminalised protest activities which led not only to the complete closure of major facilities such as ports and train stations but partial closures and redirections.

I changed the Government's budget surplus photo a little. Not to be overly critical, as the ALP are doing lots of small things right, but a federal govt surplus/non-govt deficit should never be a policy target for its own sake. To say so is to misunderstand the monetary system.

This is huge. This is absolutely monumental. We just shut down an event honoring Exxon CEO Darren Woods. The whole room fled. We showed up & prevented this monster from uttering a word. We will resist him with all we've got. There is no choice.

At a talk tonight I received a succinct answer to the question “as an activist, what is the most useful thing I can do?” Be a counter to the pollution paradox. Fight #StateCapture, be a thorn in the side of big polluters

4. *The Pollution Paradox: “The more damaging the commercial enterprise, the more money it must spend on politics to ensure it’s not regulated out of existence. As a result, politics comes to be dominated by the most harmful commercial enterprises.”

You can fight for a study program with an emphasis on ecological sustainability and a realistic approach to money and finance. Or you can join one at @TorrensUni: https://t.co/Lcv19irf04 (Disclaimer: I teach in that program.)

I don't know how it is possible that Biden doesn't understand all that is at stake here, but, based on his consistent eagerness to expand fossil fuels, I am convinced he does not. He must declare climate emergency. Now. My latest piece: https://t.co/wCpk4651gX

Critical Mass is one of the most brilliant forms of non-violent direct action ever devised. Today's Vancouver ride showed me the city like I never saw it in 22 years growing up, and felt like the safest bike ride I ever took. Safe in the middle, I never worried about a single car
