We were profoundly moved by the words of @ReemAlkari, whose child disappeared in Syria, and who, together with other Syrian families, is bravely searching for her son, Kareem.

The event brought together stakeholders to discuss one of the most urgent, current crises – the disappearance of children in armed conflicts, and highlighted the perspectives of those most impacted, including the families of the disappeared who have led accountability efforts.

“Attacks on education must be treated as prosecutable offences. Without clear mandates, proper documentation, and child-sensitive investigative practices, these violations will continue with impunity,” she stated.

Ruby stressed that effective accountability requires stronger investigative and prosecutorial capacity, clear legal classifications, and closer cooperation between justice actors and child protection specialists.
