@Sihanet GRC and SIHA call for immediate international action on the plight of disappeared women, girls and their families in Sudan and in other conflict affected areas. The international community cannot allow these women and girls to stay unseen and unheard.

@Sihanet GRC and @Sihanet recently submitted inputs for the upcoming General Comment on “Women, Girls and Enforced Disappearances” by the CED, a crucial opportunity for women and their families, in Sudan and globally, to access the remedies of the Convention, currently unavailable to them.

@Sihanet In June 2023, Roqia Ibrahim went to fetch ice during a power outage in Khartoum (RSF-controlled area). She never came back. Her mother still searches for her in the hope of her safe return, as do other families in Sudan, who also continue to search for their missing daughters.

@Sihanet While disappeared, women and girls are subjected to harrowing forms of sexual and gender-based violence. Victims and survivors, mostly disappeared by the RSF, are deprived of their liberty, with their fate and whereabouts concealed and unknown.

Despite underreporting, @Sihanet has documented over 291 cases of enforced disappearances of women and girls in Sudan, with 88% still missing. Victims and survivors range from a 5-year-old girl to an 80-year-old woman.

The 30–31 July 2025 workshop in The Hague has been postponed to ensure broader, more representative participation, especially as Syrian transitional justice efforts take shape. The decision also reflects current priorities on the ground around civil stability and security.
