The GLC also elected new leadership: Chair Timothy Bruno, #GreatLakes coordinator at @PennsylvaniaDEP and Vice Chair James Jennings, head of @ILEPA. The GLC would like to extend gratitude to our immediate past chair Mary Mertz of the @ohiodnr, for her incredible leadership.

And that's a wrap on #GLCDuluth2025! During the second day, commissioners and partners heard from the Duluth Seaway Port Authority, and received updates on #GreatLakes maritime strategy and managing PFAS in sediment from the @michiganegle @QcChicago GSGP, and @MnPCA.

We also welcomed author Peter Annin and students from Duluth Public Schools and ended the day with a celebration of the #GreatLakes Commission's 70th anniversary - and a big cake! #GLCDuluth2025

What a great first day at #GLCDuluth2025! Mayor Roger Reinert kicked off the meeting by welcoming Commissioners and Observers to Duluth. Attendees heard from experts on microplastics, #GreatLakes harmful algal blooms, water reuse, as well as from the GLC's official Observers.

@mndnr @WDNR @MnPCA @FondduLacBand In the evening, the GLC hosted a screening of the important film Ripples of Plastic, which explores the unseen impacts of plastic pollution in the #GreatLakes, including contamination, microplastics, and human health effects, and a conversation with the filmmaker.

The GLC also hosted a St. Louis River Estuary field tour on the Duluth River Train. Reps from the @mndnr @WDNR @MnPCA and the @FondduLacBand, who provided attendees with an overview of remediation and restoration work underway in the estuary.

The @glcommission planted two trees yesterday in advance of #GLCDuluth2025. As a founding participant in the #GreatLakes St. Lawrence Trees and Green Events initiative, the GLC has committed to planting trees and using other sustainable meeting practices to reduce waste.
