Some of our team in Wimbledon Village today speaking to residents about local issues. Great response to our petition to stop the Mayor of London from closing Wimbledon and Mitcham police station front counters.

My interview with @BBCNews, exposing the scandal of asylum contracts, written under the Tories, which enabled private providers to make 8x more profit by keeping asylum applicants in hotels. A shocking waste of taxpayer money.

Wonderful news that the vital local service at Queen Mary's minor injuries unit will now remain open 👇
Delighted to establish Queen Mary’s minor injuries unit is no longer due to close, after this morning's successful meeting with St George’s Trust leadership, accompanied by fellow MPs @sarahjolney1 & @PutneyFleur 🧵

We can choose a better path. Our strength lies in the British people and the values we share: tolerance, decency and respect for freedom and the rule of law. That is our United Kingdom. Together we can get things back on track.

Just how long do they need - no houses built (he promised 400 by 2026). Other Councils have built houses since 2022 - including Sutton. He said 'consensus' would be useful. Of course Merton Labour block everything anyone else suggests
We asked whether @MertonLabour's Cabinet Member for Housing will resign after failing dismally to meet their own affordable housing deadline & breaking a key manifesto promise!

Labour council bosses' claims that they've hired a team of people to patrol "every street, every week" are ludicrous- they've hired 6 people. Why can't Cllr Garrod and his colleagues just be honest with people, instead of trying to spin everything.
With crimes like shoplifting on the rise in Merton, we asked @MertonLabour whether its Safer Streets Team has been walking every street, every week, as promised

Labour asked for consensus on the need for homes. They had that when we supported the purchase of temporary accommodation, as it represents better value for money in a construction environment that has seen zero homes built by Merton. In the meantime, demand has increased by 300%
We believe everyone in Merton deserves a decent, affordable home. Tonight, we’re calling on @MertonLabour to take action on housing that gives the community a real say, improves housing conditions & ensures developers follow the rules👇

If I were @cllr_alambritis I would be embarrassed that rather than even attempt to answer the question on improving people's experience of trying to contact the Council, I could only read out a pre-scripted denial. He led the Council for 10 years, after all
We often hear from residents that they struggle to get help from the Council when they need it, so we asked @MertonLabour to commit to improving its customer service

Superb speech by .@PaulKohlerSW19 on how Lib Dems have consistently fought to keep policing at the heart of our community including backing Wimbledon and Mitcham police stations. .@MertonLabour failed to mention them in their consultation response earlier this year - shameful !

Now there is clear evidence there has been a genocide in Gaza, I’m proud @MertonLibDems is pushing to ensure Merton Council’s pension scheme are not exposed to companies involved in human rights abuses.
We asked @MertonLabour to ensure its pension scheme investments aren’t exposed to companies potentially involved in human rights abuses, including in Gaza

Fare evasion is a major issue on our railway network. Rail operators play a crucial role in preventing this. I have written to SWR, asking how they can train staff to effectively combat evasion at our major transport hub in Wimbledon.
