It's good to see @Telegraph have amended the language in their article and removed the word 'fad' - but a recognition of everyone's (valid and justified) complaints would have been nice, y'know?

PS what makes this even more disappointing is the fact in August you put out a very good article all about coeliac disease with one of the world's leading experts. This has undone all that good work - it's not even linked.

And you know what? If I ate a baguette every day with coeliac disease I’d probably end up dying sooner. So I think that headline is null and void.

We don’t need more messaging belittling a gluten free diet. We need more messaging promoting proper testing of coeliac disease BEFORE going gluten free. I don’t seen veganism getting a similar ‘fad’-bashing when that became popular as a way of eating.

Often those who give up gluten as a so-called ‘fad’ have a genuine issue - whether it’s coeliac disease, an intolerance, allergy, IBS or something else.

For many people, being gluten free is at BEST a non-negotiable health choice and at WORST a treatment for a life-long autoimmune condition for which there is no cure. It. Is. Not. A. Fad.

The use of the word ‘fad’ may have been used to be inflammatory and encourage clicks, but it does also do damage to all the work being done to raise awareness.
