Paying my respects at the Porvenir massacre marker. Grateful to Buddy and Benita Alvarez for decades of advocacy, ⁦@Refusing2Forget⁩ and esp. ⁦@MonicaMnzMtz⁩. Soon it may be effectively illegal to teach about such events in any meaningful context at TX public schools

Women's historians have been warning for decades that we never took the Comstock Act off the books. And now here we are.

Authors, Before licensing material like an image or lyrics to reprint in your book, ask yourself if it is worth the reprint fee. —Does the license cover all languages and territories —Does the reused material add value to your argument, esp if printed in black and white

PSA: authors, you can absolutely use an offer/invitation from one press as a prompt to follow up w/ a press you're waiting on and say "FYI I heard from another press, but I'd still love to work with YOU." It doesn't guarantee a (positive) response but it may move things along.

Look, if the answer to gun violence was simply “more guns,” America would be the safest country in the world.

This is an important boost for #OpenAccess book infrastructure and levels the playing field for small to medium-sized book publishers. Congratulations to all involved.

ALA is disappointed in the House passage of HR 5, dangerous legislation that would enable book bans & censorship. But thanks to library advocates, the bill was kept to razor-thin margins. We know this bill will not pass the Senate. Advocates can help make it a resounding NO. 1/2

This! Let's all talk candidly about costs, and also what the point is. What do we want to do and how do we fund it sustainably? We = scholars, librarians, HE together with publishers.

OK this stuff drives me batty. UPs I am BEGGING you to be more candid about costs. If Michigan and MIT have shown “admirable leadership in opening their lists” it’s because they had MONEY to do it. Please stop giving the impression that publisher will is what’s missing!
