“It’s a tough history, but history has tough parts and if you don’t address them head on then you don’t learn from them...that’s why we thought it was important to showcase this exhibit.” - Gustavo Hinojosa, @TMAMTDallas

Under Molina's guidance, the @txrangermuseum of history is growing more divorced from reality. They removed mention of Wallace as a slave-hunter and bicentennial materials portray Rangers as foes of Jim Crow; no mention of Bob White case. /4
#OTD in 1937, Bob White, a Black farmworker, was found guilty of rape and sentenced to death based on a forced confession extracted with the help of Texas Rangers. Though little remembered, the case is one of two Supreme Court rulings against Ranger conduct. /1

it also captures the contortions of Russell Molina, chair of the Ranger bicentennial, and other @txrangermuseum officials. They constantly invoke the tradition of the Rangers, and cosplay in Ranger outfits, then deny any connection between the current and historical rangers. /3

nice long-form reporting from @arelisrhdz @washingtonpost on contested legacies of 1920 killings of Mexican American men by Texas Rangers. Powerful images, graphics, and audio of corridos accompany the text (Spanish and English versions) /1.

A century after three Tejano men were shot to death, the story descendants tell of their killing contradicts official accounts. Whose story counts as Texas history?
