I can relate to this. I was asked to travel to speak at an event in the UK some time back. When questioned about travel/accommodation I was told that I'd get a free door ticket in to the event. I'd hardly need to pay to listen to myself! I declined.
Very kindly got asked to speak at a farming conference in Romania last week. When I asked about travel & speaking fees being covered the reply was โwe donโt usually pay our speakersโ & flights are at your discretion. I declined the invitation, as much as i enjoy presenting Iโve
