For black history month, I wrote this piece for the FPH blog about inequalities in maternal health outcomes. There’s so much great work going on (shout out here to my midwifery and obstetric/neonatal colleagues) but we still have a long way to go together.
This #BlackHistoryMonth, FPH Sexual and Reproductive Health SIG member @FrenchieDowling reflects on the persistent and unacceptable inequalities impacting black mothers and their babies, and the importance of “learning to listen.” https://t.co/p4jgGukYoU

A huge thank you to the Directors of Public Health who joined for our panel today, and our enthusiastic audience. Here's hoping there will be many more discussions about Creative Public Health going forward. #CreativeHealth #PublicHealth @TheNCCH @chwa

Had a fabulous time being on the first panel at this event yesterday. Thanks so much to Jane and the team from NCCH for organising and inviting me! And thanks to Bollyqueer who opened the event with an incredible and joyful dance performance
Visited #Leicester today to be a panelist for @TheNCCH event 'The Place of Creativity in Public Health: Perspectives from Researchers and Directors in Public Health.' Thanks @JaneHearst! Such cross-pollination and connection across #creativehealth and #publichealth!

We were delighted to welcome OH Laura French back to Hymers this week. Laura spoke to our aspiring medics about medical ethics, she gave an insight in to her career post Hymers and shared some valuable advice and words with the students. Thanks @FrenchieDowling for your support.

Good sexual and reproductive health care needs to work for everyone, and that means making sure no one gets forgotten in the data. For this pride month blog, my SRH SIG colleagues and I discuss some of the challenges for the trans community in HIV prevention and care
FPH Sexual & Reproductive Health SIG members reflect on the barriers faced by trans men around HIV treatment & prevention. To end new HIV transmissions by 2030, we must continue work to reduce inequalities. Read our #BetterHealthForAll blog. #PrideMonth

If you’re aged 40-74 and don’t have a pre existing health condition, you are entitled to a free general health check from the NHS every five years. If you think you’re eligible but haven’t had an invite, why not check with your Gp surgery?
@Leicester_News has a good track record of delivering NHS Health Checks. The PH team take every opportunity to publicise them to local communities. They are currently exploring how digital technology could complement the existing offer. @FrenchieDowling

#HIV can affect anyone. That’s why it’s a good idea to test at least once a year. Drop into one of the local @weRTradeHealth testing sessions during #February. For further info go to: https://t.co/dgu261S24m

🕒 "How do I find the time to get tested?" 🕒 Many of us have really busy lives and even thinking about adding something else in can be too much. Read Jason's story about finding the time to test for HIV, which includes different ways to get tested ⬇️ https://t.co/PKwdCbCugr

Testing is easier that you might think, whether you use a sexual health clinic, a GP or prefer the convenience of an ‘at home’ test kit.

It’s National HIV testing week! If you’re 16 years old or over and live in England you can order a free HIV test online during this week. Getting diagnosed means you can start treatment, stay healthy and avoid passing on the infection. I wrote a blog about it here👇🏻
In this #BetterHealthForAll blog, FPH Sexual & Reproductive Health SIG member Laura French reflects on the barriers faced by individuals and communities to HIV testing, and how we can work together to achieve zero transmissions by 2030. #HIVTestingWeek

Had an absolutely incredible time playing Mahler 2 with the @HallamSinfonia @SheffieldPhil and other friends this evening. Thank you to the audience for an amazing reception, and thank you to @george_conducts for steering us through.🎻🎻❤️
What an INCREDIBLE finale to #CSCW23, the atmosphere was absolutely electric throughout 🤯 not only a sensational performance of Mahler 2 but two beautiful world premieres by Mason Birch and James Thomas, winners of the Stella Jockel Young Composer Competition!

Access to safe and legal termination of pregnancy is an essential part of reproductive health care and a staple of the human right to bodily autonomy. This ruling will cost lives.
FPH have joined health and care organisations globally in condemning the US Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade. The decision violates the human right to bodily autonomy and will cost lives - especially amongst already marginalised communities

Essentials of life include whatever is necessary to take your place in public without shame. Having agency, a sense of self-worth, and participating in networks of family and friends. Lack of income threatens these and damages health.

Poverty is literally a matter of life and death for those on the margins, and the government has so far failed to step in, says Michael Marmot, director of the UCL Institute of Health Equity

Such sad news, and a huge loss to global public health. One of my heroes. The book “Mountains beyond Mountains” about his life and work inspired me to go into public health and I always recommend it to students as an essential read.
Partners In Health announced that its founder, Dr. Paul Farmer, unexpectedly passed away today in his sleep while in Rwanda. Dr. Farmer was 62 years old. He is survived by his wife, Didi Bertrand Farmer, and their three children. 1/🧵
