I can't see a french dip on the menu & not order it. This acct chronicles my love affair avec le dip francais + other sandwichy thoughts.

The only unimpressive element was au jus, which was very average - watery and salty. But very few places are able to make this part of the French dip shine. However, they did provide a generous amount. My husband dipped his sandwich in it.

There were piles of freshly carved roast beef on soft bread! Bread that tears up the of your mouth - common with French dips - is my pet peeve. A good French dip bread is so important. It makes the au jus and the meat the star.

Hello I’m back after 6 years! @bonnevivante encouraged me to start this up again so here I am! I’m in Anacortes so I checked out @Gereadeli’s French dip. Yup we got the 12-inch. It was near perfect: 4-1/2 out of 5.

Checked out Martino's on Phinney Ridge. Sad that there wasn't a french dip but this tri-tip sandwich was yummmmm.

Which Which sandwich: 1-1/2 stars. Not disgusting but I would not order it again and I'd have doubts about going there in general.

Meat: unexceptional. Au jus: Watery and overly salty. Bread was soft and chewy though.

Another red flag: the au jus cup was ONLY 1/3 FULL when I got my sandwich. I deserve to generously dip!

I should've known I was in trouble when the guy at the counter insisted I add cheese. A classic dip requires no adornment!
