The recent fire under the Santa Monica Fwy (I-10) viaduct was very similar to the 2011 tanker fire under the Pomona Fwy (CA-60) Paramount Blvd OC. That one required replacement of the entire structure, a herculean effort that took three months under an expedited schedule.

[Courtesy of Kenny Texeira] Flying into LAX in 2016; 110 freeway heading into downtown. Figueroa on the left and Broadway on the right. Coliseum/USC is at 10 o’clock(ish), and that very small white dot on the hill is the Observatory, with the Hollywood sign to the left of it.

This relic of a sign near Chinatown and the 110 freeway dates to the 1970s, when the Arroyo Seco Parkway was still known as the Pasadena Freeway, and we all knew freeways by their names -- no route designations necessary. The practice of adding numbers change in the 1980s.
