How do you get the Crips & Bloods to reduce homicides by 90% and (checks notes) make a MOVIE TOGETHER? It starts with a wild idea, a bunch of iPhones, and some very brave, brilliant people you can see here. So inspiring and REPLICABLE! @aspenideas https://t.co/RlUCKYh3qm

1/2🧵I am sick of seeing this advice: "Children 12 & under should be accompanied by an adult when trick-or-treating." WHY? Younger kids can learn to cross streets safely. No one is being poisoned. The # of molesting incidents does not go up on Halloween.

@FreeRangeKids @LetGrowOrg Every year my midwestern MIL asks when Halloween is in our neighborhood! And every year I say, “October 31? On Halloween?” If only more nights were like Halloween, with kids bopping from house and house, feeling independent and safe!

I salute you for allowing your child to do something millions upon millions of kids do every day. I know how our culture is making us all IMAGINE THE WORST in almost EVERY SITUATION. It is hard to buck. Only REALITY can make us breathe easy again. YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK!

@FreeRangeKids I'm sending my 7 year old to school on the bus on her own slowly but surely and the fear that my imagination creates is crazy but I nevertheless persevere and hope I'm not pressuring her.

Since when do towns get to declare the HOURS (& DATE) of Halloween?! It's not a state-sponsored activity. It's a TRADITION. It can go past 6 p.m.! It can occur ON THE 31st and not, for some reason, in some towns, only on Oct 26 from 1 to 3! #LIBERATEHALLOWEEN! @LetGrowOrg

Today's email: "What will you tell a parent who child is missing due to your stupid advice? Feel free to lose your kids. Leave mine alone." I'm not writing him back, but I am sorry that he believes all children are under constant threat. It is an all too common fear.

@FreeRangeKids The world we live in today is exceedingly safer than the world we grew up in, yet we treat kids as if it's much much more dangerous. Why is that?

A dad lets his 7- and 9-year-old daughters walk ahead to the park. A neighbor stops them. “You want your girls to get snatched?!” He’s not careless — he’s raising confident, capable kids. 💪 https://t.co/jcjJPTXHX3

Paraphrasing @DrCamiloOrtiz: An alternative to “gentle parenting” is to allow children practice with “The 4 D’s”— Disappointment Discomfort Distress Danger (mild) Children must experience these regularly to learn emotion regulation and develop into healthy and resilient adults.

@FreeRangeKids @JonHaidt @LetGrowOrg For over 25 years I have taken my fourth graders out to play as often as possible. The play is almost always free play. I rarely have any behavior issues during that time. The kids love it and it helps me when I need to take them back inside to do more work. Unfortunately, I
