To say I am absolutely stunned would be an understatement. Following Ricky’s career from the early days was a privilege. Getting to know the man was a pleasure. Watching him fight was exhilarating.

As a young reporter, when learning my trade, Ray was a constant fixture of the rugby league world. A genuine gentleman, always helpful and encouraging, a kindly soul who was happy to share his experiences. Rest in peace 😢
St.Helens R.F.C. is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of an outstanding servant to the sport of Rugby League, Saint #786, Raymond James French MBE, aged 85. The Club sends our heartfelt condolences to all of Ray’s family and friends at this very sad time.
