Avoid last minute surprises. Airlines enforce rules strictly as they can be fined. Always have a PAR ready when flying via or to Hong Kong! 2 years ago , got stranded due to airport closure at MAA. Luckily had a PAR already and airline gave hotel due to delay.
The airline doesn’t have to care about your final destination. They care about the rules of the place where the plane lands. and you did not have the paperwork for the place you bought the air ticket for. Stop piling on the airline for your own doing.
