These numbers do not tell the full story. Defence civil servants provide many frontline and specialist services that keep us safe and our forces rely on. Just because our armed forces are too small it does not automatically mean we have too many civil servants.
There are 63,702 civilians working in the department — nearly as many as the total number of soldiers and officers in the British Army ⬇️
